šŸ”œ Auto-type/Autofill for logging into other desktop apps (Windows, MacOS, Linux)

+1

I’ve just migrated from 1Password and they have a pretty cool functionality called Quick Access I’m missing on Bitwarden.

By just pressing CTRL + SHIFT + Space, it shows a list of my saved items and allows auto-typing in my currently open app.

After 7 years of non-action. I think its safe to assume there is major security issues with this requested feature. All though it would be a great thing to have I doubt it will come to fruition due to the fact that even microsoft’s own credential manager isn’t safe from hacks.

Even being locked down by encryption / mandatory usage of a external passkey there would still be significant measures needed to block info grabbers from getting in the chain if a PC had been compromised.

I guess that this won’t be implemented in 2025. Sad. Really want to switch back from 1Password, but I miss 1P Quick access feature.

Bitwarden desktop app should be developed to do autofill, update existing password or update new password in any application and any corner of windows OS this feature can to overwhelming it can be impossible to implement this feature also but this feature implemented means it will be a great hit

@rajagopalan181,
This is such a good idea that it has more votes than anything else, and it is on the ā€œunder developmentā€ roadmap.

I moved your post into the relevant feature request. You might want to add your vote to it too.

Yeah, it’s on roadmap, but I don’t believe that it will be implemented soon.

Hi! I really like Bitwarden, but would love that you implemented system wide autofill. Some time ago I was using 1Password and it has brilliant quick access and global autofill option.
I simply press ⌘+\ and it opens quick access menu or if there’s only one saved item for open application, website it auto-fills login details.

Would you be so kind and implement something like that also on Bitwarden? I saw that there’s something about this on roadmap already, but as it doesn’t have any forum topics assigned didn’t know where else I should ask about it.

I’m using macOS and also Raycast extension for Bitwarden, but also there’re no option to simply autofill. Already asked for such feature for Bitwarden Raycast Extension developer, but he replied that it could be dangerous because of phishing.

This is already on the roadmap. Whether or not it makes it into the features is another question.

Desktop (MacOS and Windows) native autofill of passwords and passkeys

@Rihards_Veters Isn’t that the same request as:

?

→ the title of this Feature Request (FR) is from 2018… I think the title ā€œAuto-type/autofill for logging into other desktop appsā€ could be also renamed into ā€œSystem-wide native autofill / auto-typeā€, as I understand it… so, where’s the difference between this old and your new FR?

PS: However, I changed the title of your FR for now from ā€œMacos, windows native autofillā€ to ā€œNative autofill for desktop appsā€. (if there should be this separate FR, I don’t see why Linux should be excluded in the request)

I said in my post, that as I see it’s already on roadmap, but without assigned topic to discuss about it.

Yeah basically it is.

Thanks for the confirmation - but then unfortunately I have to close this FR as a duplicate…

Ok, can you just link this request to that one? That request have many votes.

Like this: šŸ”œ Auto-type/Autofill for logging into other desktop apps (Windows, MacOS, Linux) ? (or how did you mean it?)

Isn’t it possible to merge those requests? If not don’t bother  Just close and that’s it.

Note: I added ā€œ(Windows, MacOS, Linux)ā€ to the title.

I’m just wondering if this is possible given that there are some hints to this in the OS, but not much I can find online about this. See below

Feature name

  • System-wide autofill in macOS

Feature function

  • System-wide autofill in macOS
  • A tighter integration into everything people do

Related topics + references

We have this on our radar

Hopefully, more applications and OS will adopt secure credential storage/access APIs so stuff like auto type will be easier and more secure!

Looks like Auto-fill ectensions are indeed supported as of Big Sur, just like they are on iOS.

Curious why I haven’t seen anyone else use this yet

It looks like Strongbox is using it, another password manager. I was testing it out last week and it works pretty well. Would love to see Bitwarden use this same integration. It is a nice feature for Mac users.
