Auto fill credit card number not working

When I encounter a web page that requires credit card information, I open my Firefox extension and click on the credit card I want to use to complete the transaction. This has always worked well for me, although occasionally it would fill the incorrect expiration date or security code. All of a sudden, it fails to fill the credit card number. I find I have to copy the card number and paste it into the web page.

I’ve tried the “new” cntl-shift-l" approach but that doesn’t work either.

Any help with this would be appreciated. It was really handy when it was working.

Thanks.

2 posts were split to a new topic: Problems autofilling credit card information

Just a passing note. I will try to follow along with whatever @Aracon posts in a followup. I continue to have problems with Bitwarden’s “auto-fill” functionality on various websites – not just the credit card number but other elements as well. If I could describe exactly the situation that gives rise to a failure of Bitwarden to auto-fill, I would, but it appears to be specific website related. And these failures are fairly common, in my experience.

My guess is that certain websites present forms for password and credit card data entry that don’t match what Bitwarden is expecting, in which cases Bitwarden “gives up” and says it can’t fill the form or tells you that you must “copy and paste”. I’ve seen references to “custom fields” as a way to get around some of this, but I’ve not been able to figure out how to do that. I just “copy and paste” and move on.

Yes, this does occur from time to time, and you can report such autofill failures using this form:

However, the situation you are describing now is quite different from your original post, which implied that autofilling of credit cards stopped working completely on all websites, “all of a sudden”.

It remains to be seen whether @Aracon’s experience is more similar to what you had originally described, or to what you are now describing in your update.

If you provide specific URLs where you are having autofill problems, I can try to determine whether the issue is one that can be solved using custom fields (and if so, provide guidance on how to configure the fields).

Shall I open a separate topic?

Probably best, but since there is hardly any activity in this topic, and since OP has signaled a willingness to read about your issues, it may not be essential in this particular case.

As I indicated earlier, I’m interested in following along in a separate thread dedicated to @Aracon’s experience with credit card data.

I have problems from time to time with auto-fill, not necessarily credit card, and I’ll try to document such cases carefully and submit them for review as I encounter them. But I still do have problems with credit card auto-fill, so I’ll hang around.

I have relocated @Aracon’s issue to a separate thread:
