šŸ—‚ļø Archive items to hide them from search and autofill

You are getting the term organizing and searching confused. I don’t want to search the items in the Archive folder with the search bar. I want to organize the items in to their respective folders.

E.G. Fidelity login in to theFinancial folder and Hubitat.com login in to website folder.

Again, not searching but organizing. As of right now everything that goes in to Archive is just one long list and if I need to recover an item but don’t know the exact name, I have to go one by one to find it vs knowing the folder structure it is in.

Does this make sense?

This too, especially for organization that have the Bitwarden client/web browser extension installed on numerous terminal servers.

I really wish settings were sync to your account. Or at least for premium accounts.

It does, but if you want to find an item by having Bitwarden display only items from a specific folder, then that is in fact a way of filtering (by folder name). In the browser extension, this process is very clear — you click on the :file_folder: Folder filter and select the folder name, which displays the folder contents as search results.

If you want to do the same thing for archived items, then you are suggesting that filtering should not exclude archived items. And by extension, if the filters are all off (i.e., displaying all items), then the All Items list should include archived items.

In my opinion, this defeats the purpose of archiving, because the main reason for archiving is that one wants the archived items to be omitted from the list of vault items (e.g., under All Items, or filtered subsets of the vault items).

You are getting organizing confused with filtering. In my option filtering would be if I only want to show login types or secure notes etc.

Organizing is placing items in specific locations.

For my ask, I am wanting the archive section to have its own folder structure. You could also think of the Archive hidden item as the ā€œrootā€ folder. The everything under it would be a sub folder.

Essentially it would look like this.

  • Archive
  • Archive/Application
  • Archive/Applications/Subfolder
  • Archive/Financial

You’re not realizing that what you want, in fact, is filtering, even though you describe it using different words.

This is most clearly evident in the browser extension. Do you use the browser extension? If so, click on the filter button (next to the Search box) to reveal the vault filters:

Among the available vault filters, you will find a folder filter:

It works exactly the same way as the filter next to it, which filters by type (Login, Card, etc.): for the folder filter, you select the folder you want to examine, and the vault list is then filtered to display only vault items that are associated with the selected folder.

So maybe you’re saying that for archived items, the folder filter should not exclude the archived items from the displayed results, but the other three filters (and the Search box) should exclude archived items?

Love that this feature has finally been included I’ve got loads of logins from old accounts that I don’t necessarily want to delete just in case but don’t want to clutter things up. Now the issue is there’s no bulk option I can find to archive more than one item at a time. I’ve been creating an ā€œArchiveā€ collection that I’d like to add all into this new archive feature but am having to manually select each item. Please consider adding this into a bulk utility!

Look in the web vault (https://vault.bitwarden.com or https://vault.bitwarden.eu):

My mistake thanks for highlighting that

I have Premium subscription.

According to this page: Keep your vault tidy with item archiving | Bitwarden

Users with any Bitwarden paid plan can now archive vault items,

and I should be able to archive several items in bulk

TIP: The web app can archive several items in bulk!

I only see ā€œAdd to folderā€ available

Having to archive entries one by one is not ideal

Am I missing something?

Welcome, @kennethhlee to the community!

You need to first check the items you wish to archive before pulling down the three-dots menu.

I should have included ā€˜I clicked on the ALL checkbox to select everything fir the folder and then clicked on the three dots at the end of that row, but the Archive option is not available.. Only Delete and ā€˜Add to folder’ are displayed.

@kennethhlee I do see the Archive option:

Do you speak about the Admin Console? I’m not sure the Archive button would be there (can’t check it at the moment).

Or are you self-hosting your Bitwarden server? (and either your server version isn’t up-to-date or that function is not available yet for self-hosted?!)

At the end of which row? Should be the title row that contains the ā€œAllā€ checkbox.

Are you self-hosted?

I have a Personal plan subscribed at the Premium tier… so NOT self-hosted.

Hmmm.. After a bit more poking around, I just discovered that bulk archiving isn’t available for organization entries. It would be helpful if the blog entry ā€œKeep your vault tidy with item archivingā€œ made a mention that bulk archiving isn’t available for organization entries.

I’ll have to work out a different strategy of reorganizing my vault.

Yup, that is correct. Seems I knew this a few weeks ago, but forgot it in the meantime :

Just to clarify, it is available for organization items, but only when you are in your personal view (not the admin console).

Is available for organization items and individually-owned items. Like favorites, one user’s choice to archive an item will not archive that items for any other users that have access to it.

I was in my personal view and was able to archive singular entries in my organization by with no issues.

It was when I attempted to bulk archive that I discovered that it was not possible. And then to my dismay I discovered that bulk archive of organization entries is not currently possible.

I am disappointed that the blog entry did not mention that bulk archive of organization entries was not possible. It just mentioned that ā€œThe web app can archive several items in bulk!ā€ without a caveat about organization entries not included.

@dwbit I can’t confirm that. – This is the view of my personal (premium) BW account, and there is no ā€œArchiveā€ button for those organizational items (and it’s not the Admin Console!):

The owner, though, is a free BW account (and a free organization) – might that have something to do with it?

Thanks for the extra detail! The team will be working on a fix so the archive feature works as intended for all selections.

Is there any word on hiding archived items from the ā€œVerification Codesā€ screen? (Mobile app)

2FA setups are often very hard to replace so I’m often inclined to hoard them just incase they are needed in the future. At the same time it’s frustrating to have to scroll through years of 2FA codes to locate frequent entries.

A workaround exists by renaming entries so they start with zz and are sorted to the bottom.

Perhaps the same outcome could be achieved by having a separate visibility flag per OTP.
