I had hoped my fire tablet would be useful for reading newspapers, magazines, watching videos etc. But of course all these services require credentials verification which are handled on all my other devices via Bitwarden.
The Amazon store doesn’t host Bitwarden (a decision in it’s own right which means I won’t buy a replacement Amazon tablet). It looked like the Bitwarden solution was to install FDroid and then Bitwarden from there. FDroid appears to work well on the Fire tablet but the two versions of Bitwarden (production and beta) are both marked as ‘incompatible’ on the Fire tablet.
Is there any ‘official’ support for an installable apk from Bitwarden from a trusted source?
Yes I know I can use Fire Toolbox and install Play Store but that is a last resort. I’m trying to keep this tablet minimal and don’t want the temptation of a world of apps
Brilliant thanks. Not good news, since the last update was only a couple of weeks ago. So unless Amazon have a beta based on Android 10 I now know that it is a waste of my time trying any other solutions.
Thanks for providing a definitive answer, even if it wasn’t the one I wanted to hear.
I have an amazon fire with Bitwarden. The biggest problem is it being so underpowered that unlocking take ~15 seconds. That, and my fire hardware does not have biometrics and I am spoiled.
What I did was install the Google Play Store in it and from there, I can install any Android App.
Well, this is where I think most of us are stuck. The Google Play store doesn’t serve any version of the Bitwarden app that is compatible with Fire OS 7.3.3.1. I’ve tried sideloading directly from the GitHub, but that just leads to the OS incompatibility.
I could go back to older versions which do load, but since May 28, 2025 Bitwarden now requires new device verification, and those versions do not have the UI support for it, thus I cannot input the verification code.
I’ve achieved Bitwarden app access on a Fire table running 7.3.3.1!!! It is probably VERY temporary, but fingers crossed we can get a version that will work without tweaking things…
How did I do it?
I installed an OLD version of the F-Droid version of the app. It is version 2024.6.0. I have not checked to see what major security issues exist with this version…I haven’t gotten the courage to do that yet.
Once I installed it, I logged in from another device and turned off new device login protection in settings.
I then logged in with the Fire tablet.
I then went back to turn new device login protection back on. So far, I can exit the app (using the “Exit” option from the menu) and get logged back in…
Yep, it is insecure. Yep, it probably won’t last long, as Bitwarden is moving to enforce software version deprecation.
