Dear All,
Which characters are allowed for the master-password please?
pretty much all
Anything goes, but the more esoteric your choices, the more likely you will find yourself in a situation in which a device you are using is not able to produce the required characters. Furthermore, I have read reports that on mobile devices, certain characters may be “auto-corrected” by the device, causing logins to fail (e.g., "
→ “) — thus, you may want to stay away from those.
Thank you very much Eugene99 and grb, but how do you know this please?
Where is the border?
It is possible that the special german, french and polish characters are allowed, but what about the corean ones? And the japanese ones (they have three alphabets)? And the chinese ones (There are more than 5,000 chinese characters)?
As long as the character can be encoded in UTF-8 (which allows for 1,114,112 different characters — including Japanese, Chinese, and Korean alphabets), it can be used in the master password. There may be an exception for control characters (such as backspace, tab, linefeed, etc.), although this may be a limitation of the ability of the input device to transmit those characters to the password input field (e.g., when you use a tab character in a web form, it changes the focus away from the password field).
Thank you very much grb
