Activating Fingerprint Auth on Linux Mint

I’m trying to activate the fingerprint Authentication module on BitWarden, but every time I click on “Unlock with System Authentication” I receive the following error message “Due to the installation method, biometrics support could not be automatically enabled. Would you like to open the documentation on how to do this manually?”

When I click on further documentation, all it tells me is to click on the “Unlock with System Authentication” check box, with absolutely NO other information. is there any documentation anyone could direct me to? Or does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you in advance for any support you can provide.

Seconding this. The documentation should provide more of a clue about what is the point of clicking “Unlock with system authentication” as directed. For me, it does not do anything obvious. I’m on Fedora but I assume it’s the same for all Linux users.

I had same issue when i used the flatpak version from software manager, uninstall that and get .deb from Download the Bitwarden Password Manager App for iPhone, Android, Chrome, Safari, and More | Bitwarden. That should resolve your issue.

I also found this confusing… I am using PopOS (also Ubuntu/Debian based)
With a bit of searching I followed these steps.

  • Uninstall Bitwarden from my software manager (PopOS Pop Shop)
  • Install AppImage from Bitwarden official downloads (I used AppImagePool from Pop Shop)
  • (This worked to call the system password popop, but I still did not have fingerprint option.)
  • Enable fingerprint for system authentication.
sudo - Use fingerprint authentication not only for login - Ask Ubuntu
  • Enjoy fingering Bitarden on linux at last!

Hope this helps others!
