I typically have two different Bitwarden Accounts added to the Browser extension. In general, this works great and is very helpful.
But from time to time, one of the accounts will go missing and I have to add it back. After adding it back, it does stick around for a while until the next time it happens. I don’t believe its always the same account but I can try to pay more attention the next time it happens.
I think this happens sometimes when I have to re-authenticate the account but it’s not easily reproducible or I haven’t tried to reproduce it.
Has anyone else experienced this or is it a known issue? I didn’t find anything about this specifically when searching the community.
For each account, go to Settings > Account Security, and check what settings you have for “Timeout” and “Timeout Action”. Make sure that the “Timeout Action” is set to “Lock” (not “Log out”) for both accounts.
Are you using any utility or settings to periodically wipe or reset your app data (including your browser data)?
Approximately, how frequent is this?
During the timeframe in which you have observed this behavior, have you ever made changes to the security settings of either Bitwarden account (e.g., changing the master password, email address, or KDF settings)?
Which browser are you using, and what version of the browser extension is installed?
For troubleshooting purposes, I would suggest that you install the Bitwarden browser extension also on a second browser, and install the Bitwarden Desktop app as well. In both, log in to both of your Bitwarden accounts, and ensure that the Vault Timeout Action has been set to “Lock” (this setting has to be checked/set in each app/extension, and for both accounts). When you’re done setting this up, you can close the Desktop app as well as the second browser.
Now, next time you find that one of your accounts has gone missing from the extension in your main we browser, please open the second browser (as well as the Desktop app), and check whether the missing account is still available there.
If you have multiple devices, you can also do the same test by leaving the two Bitwarden accounts logged in (but locked) in an app or extension on the other device(s). Then, check if the missing account has gone missing from all devices at once, or if it only disappears in your main browser extension on your primary PC (while remaining logged in and available on your other devices).
Just a quick update. I’ve not observed this happening lately. But I know that it was a fairly regular event. Maybe Bitwarden fixed something? lol Or maybe it’s like taking your car to the mechanic for it to not act-up when being checked out? Ha!
Anyway, thanks for the response and suggestions. If I do notice it returning, I’ll try to make better notes of the conditions for when it’s happening.

For the record (and because it may help us help others), which browser and browser version are you using?
And the problem you described above happened in all of these browsers? And when an account went missing (logged out) in one of the browsers, was it always simultaneously gone from all other browsers?
