Accessing forgotten password vault in a family organization

I want to check before deleting an old vault in my family org for a user that has forgotten their password. My family has had an account for years, even before the emergency access feature was implemented (We’re actually on a 2019 Family Org plan and they just added premium features to those plans.) One of the users in the org has forgotten their password. I am the owner of the organization, and their account is also an owner (I’m not doing that again.)

From what I have read, getting access to their vault either by me as the admin or the user without their password won’t happen for a few reasons:

  • resetting their password is not possible since this isn’t an Enterprise account
  • emergency access isn’t possible, since it wasn’t set up before the password was lost
  • there still is not a admin password reset for Family Organizations

Does anyone know of any other options I’m missing, or if I’m wrong about these? It would be good if we could access the vault, but I’ve mentally written it off and am wondering if I should just delete their user and data (This has happened twice over the years, BTW, so I’m going to require that they complete emergency access when I set them up again.)

No Admin Password Reset for Family Orgs: As you stated, Bitwarden does not offer an administrator-initiated password reset for Family Organizations. This is a fundamental security design choice to ensure that even organization owners cannot access individual user vaults without their master password.

That sounds reasonable then… I would like to add, that creating “emergency sheets” is also a recommended thing… (Bitwarden Security Readiness Kit)
