Read Existing Filled Fields When Creating New Login

Hello,

It would be a useful to be able to read existing filled username/password fields from a website when creating a new login.

Using iOS as an example: iOS/Safari has a built in autofill feature that makes it easy to automatically fill a saved email into the username field on a website with no Bitwarden context. From there, a user would choose to create a saved login in Bitwarden, but when the login creation form is shown, the existing iOS autofilled email/username is not read and populated into the creation form. This means the user needs to enter the already-autofilled email into Bitwarden, duplicating efforts.

This feature would be helpful in general if a user has started filling out the signup page (autofill or manual) and then decides (or remembers) to create a corresponding Bitwarden login.

This is different from a previously requested feature for default username autofill on new login creation: Autocomplete default username (+random password) when creating new entries (or option in generator). This feature uses previously filled username/password fields by default when creating new logins, and if implemented and enabled, would override any default username settings.

@jpm Welcome to the forum!

As far as I see it, this is already possible for the browser extensions via this setting in the Notifications:

… and on the Android mobile app as well… via this setting:

It doesn’t seem possible on iOS though… but there is an existing feature request for the iOS app regarding this:

(Edit: Posted the right feature request now… Previously, I posted a wrong feature request (Bring 'Auto fill and save' to iOS), that didn’t correspond with the request here.)

And all other BW apps (web vault, desktop app, CLI) are not relevant here at this moment in time.

So I’m going to close this request now and you are welcome to join the mentioned feature request.
