Why can I not join an organisation with my personal account?

@cksapp has stated that organisation invitations can be responded to by creating a new account, or joining with an existent one: [1]

However, the message that I received, after our novice organisation administrator invited me, was “[Organisation] set up a Bitwarden account for you”, with no option to utilise my personal account. Instead, the sole button states “Finish account setup”.

Considering that switching accounts isn’t necessarily a trivial endeavour on all Bitwarden clients, I don’t want another one, if I can avoid it. Consequently, by what process/documentation can I advise them to invite my personal account, instead? [2]

The answer to your question on Reddit is “yes”:

Does that mean that the sole way to invite a user who already owns an account is to invite them with the e-mail address attached to that account?

Furthermore, this will only work if the existing individual account and the organization are hosted on the same server.

@grb, thanks. Where did you learn this? I’d like to add it to the documentation. [1]

Which part?

The bit about invitee accounts and organizations needing to be on the same server is mentioned in the documentation.

The bit about using the existing account’s email address when inviting a new organization member is mentioned in Step 2 of the member invitation procedure from the documentation, although it is possible I may have learned this by trial-and-error…
