I would like to propose a feature that allows users to share login credentials (including both username, password, and 2FA codes) directly with one click from the vault, without needing to switch tabs or use Bitwarden’s separate “Send” feature. This feature would simplify the sharing process, especially for accounts protected by two-factor authentication (2FA).
Use Case:
Currently, sharing login credentials requires users to manually copy and paste them into a Send link, and separately manage the 2FA key. For teams or families working together, this process can be cumbersome, particularly when trying to share accounts with 2FA enabled.
I am suggesting a feature similar to what other password managers like 1Password offer, where:
- When a user clicks “Share” on a login, Bitwarden generates a link containing the login credentials.
- This link includes the dynamically regenerating 2FA code, so recipients don’t need to set up 2FA manually.
- The recipient sees both the login details and the automatically updating 2FA codes, providing full access to the account in one step.
This would reduce friction for users who need to share secure accounts quickly and efficiently.
Expected Behavior:
- A “Share” button appears on each login entry in the vault.
- Upon clicking “Share,” a link is generated that includes the login credentials and 2FA code.
- The recipient of the link would be able to view the dynamically regenerating 2FA codes without needing to set up an authenticator.
Comparison with Other Tools: For reference, 1Password offers a similar feature that allows users to share both login credentials and 2FA codes seamlessly. This integration makes sharing secure credentials easy and efficient, especially for teams and collaborators.
