Vault Item Labels (tags)

Corporation 2024 speedrun:

  1. Get big or semi-big.
  2. Ignore any sort of functional customer needs for years, explain it with “user research”, “product design” and similar buzzwords.
  3. Work on shifting UI elements back and forth by few pixels instead.

A funny solution with organization and collections;) Only possible if you purchase additional organization.

Interesting fact: collections from Bitwarden are imported to KeePass as tags

So Bitwarden supports tags, but no one knows about it

I’ve been wanting tags for a long time. As a workaround, I found I can use Custom Field “Tag” and give it tag name (like a bank name or whatever), and at least on the desktop version, I can search and find by the tag name. But it would be better to have this support formally, because I may not always remember tag names I’ve used, and because it just makes sense to have it. Then they could get rid of folders.

There have literally been no updates for 13 months on this basic functionality request?
Oh my bad totally, I read the wrong date. Let me fix my comment…
This was first requested in the year 2018 and 2025 is here with no movement on this basic and VERY requested feature?
If I’m wrong please point me to the roadmap item.
Thank you !!!

You have no clue how much I struggle with folders. A hierarchical tag system would have worked so much better. This would also allow tag inheritance and for the credentials to be found in multiple places when looking for it.

Eight year of asking for this feature and it’s still not here yet… I thought this would have made so much sense to be implemented by now.

I’ve been watching this thread since 18… every update annoucement, I get excited hoping to see that tags has finally been implememented, but that is never the case. To be quite honest, beyond the “Send” feature, there hasn’t been any new features/enhancements I’ve actually cared about. What I would love is an actual update from the dev team explaining why this hasn’t happened. I would even love to see a response like, guys it’s not happening, stop trying to make it happen.

Aren’t you happy you got new slightly modified UI again instead?! We are all supposed to be happy. Prediction for 2026: still no tags, but the UI changed to the average between this and old version.

Personally, I’m willing to pay $100 if it helps the team move in the right direction. Maybe at least that will help.

I just moved to Bitwarden last year and was hoping for this feature, as i am already thinking about changing my pw manager because of this.

Sad to see that a feature request like this is not seen and taken into account.
Like @fonefoo said: it would be great to see at least one reply, even though they tell us it is not going to happen.

Unfortunately, very bad user interaction from the team.

When do we get the tags?

The feature request has been ongoing since years and no tags in sight.
I understand that there might be some more important topics to fix and implement, but tags seem to be very useful for a bunch of users.

Just wondering if this has been considered once to be implemented.

@Winnler, welcome to the community!

I moved your question to the associated feature request instead of the general roadmap,

Frankly, it’s becoming increasingly unacceptable that such a simple feature is still missing after all these years. When I switched to Bitwarden back in 2018, the tool was solid and showed a lot of promise. But in recent years, progress has slowed down so noticeably that 1Password has pulled far ahead, especially in terms of feature set and usability.

The lack of this particular feature is, in my opinion, symbolic of deeper issues in the product’s development. This isn’t about a niche request – it’s a basic function that users, myself included, have been asking for consistently for over seven years.

Additionally, I expect a clear and detailed explanation (@gtran,@bw-admin) as to why such a fundamental feature has still not been implemented after all this time. As it stands, I can only assume that similar issues will arise in the future, given how this case has been handled. That raises serious concerns about how future feature requests and problems will be addressed. I would also like to know what steps Bitwarden is taking to ensure that this kind of failure does not happen again.

I created this forum account solely to express my deep dissatisfaction with the lack of progress on this issue. If no substantial update is delivered soon, I’ll have no choice but to move on.

Still coming? Don’t see it on the roadmap here 2+ years later. Still feels like a big miss for the community.

You are right! This is not only a bad example on the tag topic, but this expands to all actions.
When talking about simple features to be added for over 7 years, the concern rises that there are multiple issues coming ahead (including security concerns!).

I’m going to assume that in order for Bitwarden to implement tags, it would require a rearchitect of the existing app. HOWEVER, with the rewrite of the mobile apps and browser extension this should have been taken in to consideration and hopefully it’s just hidden for right now.

But that is not to say that some communication from bitwarden would be nice and appreciated. Especially seeing as this feature has over 550 votes for it. It honestly feels like Bitwarden doesn’t care and only has a voting feature for PR purposes.

With all that being said, I was anti-tags because I like folders. For me, 9 out of 10 times I won’t remember what the name of an item is called that I am looking for but I do remember what folder it is in.

But lately I’ve been needing to find more granular type of items. E.G. items that have passkeys. I do this by adding an emoji in the title of the item. For passkeys I would like to see a section like how they have for TOTP.

A good example for needing tags is that I have a bunch of logins for various websites that deal with hunting, guns, gun ammunition and gun holsters. By being able to use tags I can quickly identify those login items / websites that are for holster only websites from ammunition only websites from websites that sell everything like Bass Pro or Cabela’s.

Yes I can create folders but when browsing folders or saving folders, it starts to become bothersome the more folders and sub folders you have.

Can we get someone from Bitwarden to either confirm or deny if there is or have been any talks about tags and what the current state of implementation is with tags?

In collections (how Bitwarden organizations share items among members), one item can be mapped to multiple collections. We are looking into how we can expand the concept of folders to allow mapping of items to multiple folders as that will allow more flexibility.

Before making this change, Product and Design are looking holistically at the concepts of accounts, vaults, items, collections, and folders and how intuitive these are for new users. As we refine these concepts and milestones, we will share more progress with the community. One of those milestones will be to expand folder flexibility.

3 posts were merged into an existing topic: Additional item types (pre-defined)

I just switched from 1P to BW. There’s been nothing in a long time. There are a lot of good suggestions here in the forum, some of which were posted years ago. Nothing has been implemented, which I find a bit of a shame. On the roadmap, I read something about “onboarding,” which is irrelevant to me personally. The suggested features would be more interesting.

Hey @mutilator you can filter by votes to see community feature requests that have been implemented.

Also, Topics tagged roadmap:implemented shows only those items that have been implemented.
