I travel and work remotely, and remotely access computers located in other locations than I am (using software such as anydesk or teamviewer); sometimes those devices are in a different city or a different country. My computer back home is on all the time for example and I access it remotely. I just started using bitwarden (personal free) and my question is: is it okay that I sign into my bitwarden account on my various devices and use it on all of them, including ones in remote locations? I know that the personal account is okay to be used on an unlimited number of machines by a single user, but I was concerned that the system will misconstrue usage from different countries on a single account as misuse because it will think it is multiple people on one account. It could be that within the span of several minutes, I would be logging in on various machines in different locations using bitwarden. Does the system allow it or does it block it? I hope my question is clear. Thanks.
@CBF Welcome the forum!
Multiple individuals using a single account is not allowed, but there are no terms that prohibit a single individual from using a single account in multiple locations simultaneously. My understanding is that Bitwarden does not actively police the single person per account rule, so I doubt they have any mechanism in place for blocking account access from geographically disparate regions.
The possible exception is that Bitwarden uses Cloudflare for DDoS mitigation and similar defenses, so it is theoretically possible (although IMO unlikely) that Cloudflare may flag your traffic as suspicious. If you get an error message when attempting to log in, I would suggest contacting Bitwarden Customer Support with a description of the error message and your device setup (IP addresses, etc.) so that they can resolve the issue (e.g., by whitelisting your IP addresses).
Thank you for the detailed answer!
Thanks for the clarification, grb, that helps clear things up. I was wondering the same thing since I also work remotely and occasionally access devices in different countries. Good to know Bitwarden doesn’t actively restrict based on geographic location, as long as it’s a single user. Appreciate the mention about Cloudflare, too. I’ll keep that in mind in case I run into any issues.
