username generator tab stopped working

Since the recent update, the password generator has stopped working for me across multiple platforms. This issue affects both the desktop app (Windows) and the browser extension (Chrome). The issue begins after interacting with the “username” tab, which is non-functional. Once it is clicked, switching between the “password” and “passphrase” options also stops working.

The web app have the user interface right but is not functional to produce a forwarded email alias.

The android app seems fine for now.

The last time I used the browser extension for the alias generator was on July 1st, and it worked smoothly then.

Is anyone else encountering the same issue? I’d appreciate any suggestions or workarounds. Thanks!

This was a bug with versions 2025.6.0. Solution: update to 2025.6.1.

PS: If that doesn’t work already, do the following (can be done both with the browser extension and desktop app, if necessary):

  1. log out in the BW app (be sure you can log in again! → master password and 2FA or “new device email verification code”)
  2. deinstall the app
  3. check if the local data of the app is deleted (Data Storage | Bitwarden)
  4. restart your computer
  5. re-install the BW app
  6. log in again

Thanks for the reply. However, I started to experience the issue after the upgrade.

My desktop app:

Version: 2025.6.1
SDK: main (1fa0f7a)
Shell: 36.3.1
Renderer: 136.0.7103.113
Node: 22.15.1
Architecture: x64

The Chrome extension is also on version 2025.6.1.

This might be a separate issue, but I’ve also found that the alias generator on the web app isn’t working either.

Then you should try to deinstall/reinstall the regardin BW apps. I’ve added the whole recommended sequence to my previous post.

Hm. Are you self-hosting your BW server?

PS: I just logged in to the web vault and can use the alias generator. – If you experience an issue there, you could report it as a bug on GitHub (“New issue”).

I used to be able to generate forwarding email addresses in the browser extension (via Generator > Username). It seems this feature has been removed recently while it is still available in the desktop version. Is that correct? What is the reason? Will it come back?

I moved your post into this thread, as I guess it’s the same issue. – Extension version 2025.6.0 had a bug affecting the generator. Sometimes, also the update to 2025.6.1 left the generator “damaged”.
