Use token or passkey to sign into Bitwarden

It would be great if we could use a passkey or token to sign into Bitwarden rather than having to type the master password everytime.

Completely agree. After having been close to being violated several times, I invested heavily in Yubikeys and similar hardware. I’m trying to use this method of authentication as much as is possible and find it frustrating adoption across the vast landscape of apps and sites has been slow. Therefore, it would be way cool if I could use my Yubikey 5 or other hardware keys to login everywhere: browser extension, desktop app, mobile app, etc.

Though this is tagged to “passwordless.dev” which I don’t use, I can only double down on this “feature request”. Would be great to login to Bitwarden (in my case: the password manager) with my Yubikey not only to the web vault, but also to the browser extension, mobile app, desktop app etc.

PS: I know the Bitwarden team has surely an eye on this topic (one technical thing seems to be the general availability of PRF and maybe the functions of the different OS - like Android 14 and before etc.). But I wanted to state something like “I hope it comes sooner than later”

Erm… Wasn’t this released in 2024.1.0 ?

@DoctorB Only for the web vault. :smiling_face_with_tear:

Starting with the web vault as a beta, then other clients to follow.

Yes - they called it “beta”. But the other clients are not yet there. But the year is still young…

@lstringf … what do you meant by “token” back then (or now)?

Or did you mainly mean “login-with-passkey” to the Bitwarden account/vault?

Maybe a hardware OTP token similar to these:
