I noticed a few months ago after a major update involved in a design refresh slowed down the Firefox browser extension boot up times on both my Intel laptop running Windows 11 and my AMD Desktop running Ubuntu 24.04.
There is also a “glitch” reload of the extension which might cause part of the pin I entered before to be erased.
I use the Bitwarden extension for Firefox in Windows 11. I have security set to require entry of the PIN after a timeout period. Lately, when Bitwarden needs the PIN, it presents the screen, I type the 4-digit PIN, Bitwarden deletes some or all of the PIN and tells me that the PIN is wrong. I have typed the PIN in and watched it disappear before I press the enter key. It’s not the end of the world, but it’s pretty annoying.
Any ideas what’s causing this issue and how to fix it?
I moved your post into a corresponding thread. (see also above for the original bug report)
This bug is fixed in extension version 2026.2.0, which was released about two weeks ago. Unfortunately, Mozilla’s extension store did not approve it yet, so the Firefox extension is still on 2026.1.1. So, should fix itself, as soon as the update arrives on Firefox.
EDIT Mar 23, 2026: Firefox extension 2026.2.0 is now available in Mozilla’s Extension Store.
I’ve been noticing this behavior for a few months now. At first I thought it was due to my error pin, but after closely eying over the issue, it’s definitely a bug.
After clicking on the BW extension to launch the app, the UI is visible with pin input fielf. If the user starts typing their PIN immediately during this window, the I-beam cursor jumps back two positions, silently dropping the first two characters entered. This results in an incorrect PIN being submitted
