Show saved logins, but reprompt often for passwords/notes in Chrome

Hi there,

I’m a new user coming from Lastpass, and aside from the various issues they have, I did like the way their browser extension worked.

The behaviour I’m not trying to recreate with Bitwarden’s (Chrome) extension, is showing your accounts in a login field, but then still prompting for your password to fill it in. It appears with Bitwarden your vault is either fully locked, or fully unlocked, and when it’s locked you can’t even see if you have logins stored for that website.

My preferred behaviour is that by default, passwords are locked. You can see your accounts in the vault, but to show or copy the passwords you need your master password. Is it possible to recreate this at all with Bitwarden? I don’t ever really need it to fully lock, as long as I need my master password for notes and passwords.

I know there’s an option to re-prompt for your master password, but I think I’d run into some problems there as well:

  • Need to enable it for each login separately, as there’s no default setting
  • If possible being able to copy passwords immediately for a few minutes after unlocking would still be nice. I just don’t want the shown accounts to be hidden at all.
  • In Lastpass this hid the passwords from your emergency contacts. I didn’t see this in Bitwarden’s documentation, but just to be sure, this wouldn’t cause any issues in case an emergency contact needs access to my vault?

Thank you in advance for your response!

Not sure if you tried this but it may work for your situation. Try using the pinlock. that would not be as time consuming as typing in your master password. Or the timer option, You could set it for 5 minutes and youd be ablet o go back and forth on it. Have it locked to a pin and I think that would be a decent amount of time, and with the custom part, you could set it for how ever long you need.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my question, and providing a possible solution. It appears the behaviour I’m looking for isn’t possible with Bitwarden, as when your vault is locked you can’t see what passwords you have saved for that site. For now I’ll go with your suggestion and perhaps submit a feature request.
