Feature name
Federation Sharing
Feature function
Nextcloud is a self hosted file sharing service like dropbox or google drive. It allows to share files within the instance (like organisations in bitwarden) and accross unrelated instances, they call it federation sharing.
In nextcloud a user gets two identities, username and [email protected] The second username is related to the instance and can thus be used to share a file with an unrelated nextcloud instance. The nextcloud network becomes a mesh.
If this feature got added to bitwarden, it would obsolete many syncing challenges.
Businesswise, it would enable people who are already using bitwarden with somebody to get their own paid instance and just share their passwords with it. No longer to force everything into one account, no longer decide which account to use mainly.
