Settings -> Subscription missing on self-hosted, there is nowhere to upload licence

On self-hosted web version 8.3, the subscription page is missing from Settings on personal account. As a result, I cannot find where to upload my licence file.

Licence on the self-hosted instance expired today. I’ve got the new licence file, just can’t find where to import it.

On the admin console, our organisation is fine - the licence upload page is there and I uploaded the new licence last month. But this page is missing from my personal account.

Has it moved somewhere I somehow can’t see?

Hi Dino,

I’m unfortunately not able to replicate the issue. A couple of suggestions for ways to resolve this:

  1. Are you able to navigate directly to the page by putting the /#/settings/subscription/premium route in your web browser url field?
  2. it sounds like you have an organization. Can you clarify the type of organization you are self-hosting?

Hi Micah, thanks for coming to help. I am also in contact with Daniel from support but he also seems perplexed by this.

Thanks for the URL path, I can view the page if I use the URL directly.
However, this looks weird; there may have been a change I don’t know about.

Here’s what I see if I use your URL path:

I have a Families plan. Does this mean that just paying for my Families plan gives both our personal accounts premium features too without paying for individual premium plans? Up until now I had to pay separately for each personal account.

EDIT: I should say I am on a Families 2019 plan, not the newer one.

Back at the beginning of this year, Bitwarden updated Family 2019 plans so that they are granting Premium. You no longer need to pay for individual Premium separately.

This may not have been widely announced at the time.

Since you are a member of an org that grants Premium, we intentionally hide the subscription section from the navigation to prevent users accidentally creating extra subscriptions. This is a bit odd in the self-host context since you can’t subscribe there.

This explains it perfectly, and thank you for making it cheaper for us (well, from next year  ).

Perhaps it would be helpful if there was a clear indication within each user’s personal account to show they have Premium features enabled.

Another question is, what if I had 7 users. Would the 7th user automatically see the subscription page to enter a licence?

I’m not sure - I think the Family 2019 plan still only allows up to 5 members.

If you have 7 users in your self host environment, anyone who is not a member of the organization should see the subscription page to enter a license.

If you’ve somehow surpassed the plan limits on members, I’m not sure what behavior to expect

I thought the limit was 6 - I only have 2 at the moment so this won’t be a problem for a good while! Thank you
