I imported all of my data from LastPass to try this out. I wanted to move items out of my personal vault so they only exist in the organization. So I exported them out of my personal vault as a csv and re-imported them into the organization allowing me to delete the duplicate copies in my personal vault.
Unfortunately they were all placed into Unassigned so I have to manually move them one-by-one to the correct collection. Itād be nice if I could Select All and change the collection for everything in my Unassigned.
I am reviewing bitwarden against dashlane, 1password, lastpass for my business. When logged into my vault (not the organization vault), I can select multiple entries and select Options/Share which opens up a pop-up prompting me which collections I want to share those passwords to. However, when doing so, I also get a message in this pop-up saying that none of the selected credentials can be shared - full message below. Is this intended behavior?
"Choose an organization that you wish to share these items with. Sharing transfers ownership of the items to the organization. You will no longer be the direct owner of these items once they have been shared. You have selected 2 item(s). 0 items are sharable, 2 are not. "
Itās been more than two years since this was suggested. As already mentioned itās basic UX design.
How is this not added yet? Even the Windows desktop app doesnāt allow you to select multiple items and move them around(drag&drop anyone?).
So for instance: instead of simply selecting multiple items and drag&drop them from one collection to another, one has to do the following steps:
Select ONLY ONE item
Click Edit button
Scroll Down to Collections accordion
Click Collections accordion
Uncheck box of the current Collection
Check box on the desired Collection
Click Save
Now imagine having hundreds or god forbid thousands of items you need to move from one collection to another. 1000 * 7 = 7000 actions. Make sure you hire a data entry specialist for that one.
What is the timeline on this? Itās nice that itās in motion, but a two year timeline provides 0 actionable value for any corporation actually interested in this product. No system administrator that values their time will use this product till then.
I did vote for that. Iām very confused about Bitwarden usage. One of the key missing feature is multiple selection and possible actions.
Iām using a family organization with a self hosted Bitwarden, and moving my vaults from 1Password.
In the web app :
in my personal vault, if I āselect allā, it does only select a part of my items (500 I guess). There is no way i can select all items to share them with the family and move them to a collection. The feature exists, but there is an issue. Itās not working as expected
as soon as items are shared in the family vault, there is no way to change the collection for a list of items. This is why I import first to my personal vault and then share to a collection in the family organization. But as soon as items are shared, if I want to move multiple items to a collection, I need to do it one by one by clicking 4 times for each item.
In the macOS app, i cannot select more than one item. Share feature is only accessible from the edit frame of a single item. Share a single item with the family and set it to a collection takes 5 clicks. I have more than 1000 password. I cannot do this one by one.
There is a lot to do on that āselect multiple entriesā feature. And I think it could resolve a lot of painful situations when one try to manage datas.
This combined with the bug (?) of collections being duplicated on import (I used Bitwarden csv format, havenāt searched yet for a remedy, still dealing with the manual effort of fixing extries one by one ) creates a pretty frustrating situation.
Even if the intricacies of the ideal UI implementation are too much to accomplish in the short-term, letās have some kind of workaround - cli, bulk export/manual update/bulk import⦠something.
I have to admit that the first two points were already there (delete/move for multiselect) even if a bit hidden (the checkbox is ticked even if you click anywhere else in the line and the actions are then in the cogwheel menu at the top). A more obvious option (in terms of discoverability, not in how easy it is to design) would be to mark the whole line blue or something and show special buttons at the top that only pop up as soon as something is selected.
I have no clue about organizations but I still very, very much would like to have an option for the third one, merging entries, I didnāt clean up my duplicates until now and am still waiting.
Iām aware that this is a comparatively bigger request with a mostly use-once utility so I can completely understand if there are more useful things to implement
Iām not sure what the best course would be for this request thread since the headline and the first post are somewhat misleading in that regard, I want merging capabilities and most of the commenters want multiselect in an organization context. I sadly canāt seem to edit the original post to put some context in there, but I donāt mind if a mod edits my post to reflect reality better
I donāt know about you but Iāve been increasingly frustrated with the fact that anytime I want to change more than one item on my Organizationās Collections, say move 50 items from one
to another I have to do it one at a time.
This feature would allow for so much time saving and I have a small Organization i canāt imagine the pain it would be to have 10K items and needing to change 1000.
Currently the only action available is delete when multiple item are selected, if only one is selected I can clone or change Collections (besides deleting)
This is somewhat requested on Select Multiple entries and applicable actions - #14 by PawsMashingKeys but itās more aimed at the selection itself and then what to do with it and was requested in 2018, there was some acknowledge from the Devs apparently but I donāt think its on the Road Map that was updated on June.
Thank you Bitwarden Team for being so open with feature requests and having an amazing service but I believe this is basic UX and shouldnāt take that much effort to implement.
This is absolutely making starting using this with our organization more difficult.
I feel like this, since it is for paid account management, would make sense to prioritize. Youāll get more paying users, because weāll be able to finish the migration more quickly!
As a workaround I tried to use the import tool to import things into collections - but rather than importing into existing collections, it creates new collections with the same name as the existing collections - which is then a terrible experience to delete (are you sure youāre deleting the right thing? Or are you deleting something that looks exactly the same, but has data that would take hours to get input again because you have to put in the correct collections one by one?).
Yeah, I have been using bitwarden for a longtime but in order to setup different groups with collections this is an issue. I am wondering if I setup a staff member with only access to the one collection will it work to import only to that collection? Not sure if they even have access to import/export might not work?
I find it very difficult to understand how this isnāt still a thing, itās seems so basic and obvious. I feel like the path is layed out and someone forgot to enable the multi selection of this settings.
Import your items. Export the Vault. Purge the Vault. Edit the export in excel. Re-import. Saved me tons of time. NOT ideal at all, the request definitely needs to be implemented, but until then I hope this helps someone.
Also suggest deleting your collections before re-importing, as they are duplicated for some reason.
Iām having the same issues. I recently had to go through hundreds of collections and rename them to move them around in the organization structure. Then had to go through hundreds of individual passwords and assign them to new collections.
We migrated from a Keepass based structure to Bitwarden which resuted in hundreds of collections to manage. Having the option to move them around or do anything would be fantastic.
Thanks for the feedback @SysLeksa rest assured the team is working on implementing this functionality
For now, you can do one of the following:
Disclaimer: Please read through the import and export documentation in the Help Center and ensure that your vault data is securely backed up before trying any of the following steps
āPurgeā the organization vault from the organization account settings menu (please ensure backups before purging vault)
Manually delete all collections from the web vault (or DM me for a Bitwarden CLI script you can run to automate collection deletion).
Import into an Individual account, where you can then multi-select and move to an organization collection (please note this only works when initially moving from an individual vault to a shared organization collection)
Select All and checkbox selection seems to only be available on Vaults, but not on Organizations. I believe it is even more important to select all when editing logins on Organizations. It will improve the workflow quite a bit. Please also try to include checkboxes while adding a select all option.
Currently itās possible to move item only from personal vault to an org (if itās the same user). I am belonging to more than one organisation and Iām unable to move items between them. I am a technician in more than one company and Iām trying to move items from my private org to orgs of their clients - any manual exports/tricks are no-go for me, as it is very error-prone porcess.
