Question about long-term iOS 16 support

Hi everyone,

I’m considering switching from Dashlane to Bitwarden because Dashlane no longer supports iOS 16.
I saw that Bitwarden still supports iOS 16, but I’m wondering about long-term support.

Will iOS 16 be supported for a long time?
I don’t want to switch to another password manager now and end up having to change again in 2 years.

Thanks!

Hi Charly, welcome to the forum!

To answer your question, Bitwarden has no current plans to drop support for iOS 16. However, as our public documentation states, “For all underlying platforms on which Bitwarden clients applications are installed or used, for example desktop or mobile operating systems and web browser versions, Bitwarden aims to support those versions which are currently supported by the vendor.”

What that means is that when Apple stops supporting a version of iOS, Bitwarden also makes no promises that we will continue to support it. Apple has not released any security fixes for iOS 16 for a little over four months now, and it could be considered end-of-life (source).

As such, it’s a bad idea from a security perspective to continue using iOS 16, and I would not count on Bitwarden continuing to support it long term.
