I just wanted to post here that I’ve come across some peculiar behavior today:
One of my recently modified passwords kept showing as “dots” only;
I.e., even after toggling the password visibility, I was just able to see dots.
A screenshot probably tells more than a thousand words:
Am I missing something here?
This was to be observed both on my Windows 11 as well as on my iOS client app.
I might have been not up to date with my Bitwarden Server version which is running in docker. Might this have caused the problem?
I couldn’t modify the entry either, as I ran across an error message telling me something like “The cipher you are updating is out of date”.
My solution was to update the docker image, now everything seems to run smoothly again. I was able to change the password in question and created a new entry with the new information.
I still wanted to post this here for reference if somebody else experiences the same.
It seems, you are using an unofficial server software, which is not supported by Bitwarden, as it is an independent product. From time to time, there will be compatibility issues between the official Bitwarden client apps (browser extension, mobile app, desktop app…) and an unofficial server product, when Bitwarden implements changes to its own server software and/or client apps. “…Bitwarden cannot guarantee that official clients will work perfectly with non-official servers.”
(Also due to this - and for other reasons - we recommend using the official Bitwarden server software.)
It is generally not possible for members of the Bitwarden community (users or developers) to help with such issues - and with issues of the unofficial server itself. Please seek support in their community spaces.
If you can replicate your issue on an official Bitwarden server, feel free to open a new thread here.
