I get a “failed to fetch” message when i try to change my password, happens in the edge browser,no issue in firefox.i now find that i have to maually enter a password before i can login to a website i use a lot.I use edge more than firefox so it.s a real pain in the butt.
Do you mean your Bitwarden account password? Or a password for another service/account, stored in your Bitwarden vault?
Do you mean the browser itself = the Bitwarden web vault?
Or do you mean the browser extension (for Edge, for Firefox…)?
Do you mean on the website of the service/account you want to login itself?
Or do you mean for one of the Bitwarden apps (browser extension, web vault, …)?
And how does the desktop app come into play here (you tagged your post with app:desktop)?
And are you really self-hosting your Bitwarden server (you tagged your post with self-hosting) - if yes, what is your Bitwarden server version?
Please clarify, because honestly, I don’t really understand what exactly you are trying to describe here…
PS: After reading @grb 's comment I got the idea to search for the “failed to fetch” error in the forum and would like to add, that maybe logging out and possibly deleting the local data of the corresponding Bitwarden app(s) - in your case possibly the browser extension and/or desktop app - may help also…
Go to edge://extensions/?id=jbkfoedolllekgbhcbcoahefnbanhhlh
and check what setting you have for “Site access”.
Also, what are your KDF settings?
My apologies for not making myself clear. To be honest i don’t understand some of the abbreviations being used.I have thr bitwarden extension in the browser. When i say i can’t change the password, that is for a website/websites in the vault. So to get into the vault i enter the master password in the dropdown after right clicking the extension. This of course gives me access to all the websites in the vault. So if i open up the details for a vault website to edit it,in this case change a password,i can’t edit because i get the cannot fetch message.
I don’t really know what KDF means i’m assuming it means the 3 options, ON CLICK , ALL SITES & i can’t recall the third one.
Hope that clears some things up. Thanks.
Just to add,if i do all that while using the Firefox browser ,i can do the edit function with no issues.
KDF is an unrelated question.* I had asked about your setting for “Site Access”, but I was asking you which of the three available options (“On click”, “On specific sites”, or “On all sites”) do you have selected in your Edge browser extension settings for the Bitwarden extension?
*As far as KDF, you need to log in to the Bitwarden Web Vault to see those settings. How to access the Web Vault depends on where your account is hosted; in your post, you have selected a tag self-hosting
, which would normally indicate that your account is hosted on server that you manage yourself — i.e., you have set up a dedicated server computer, and are running the Bitwarden Server software that hosts the back-end database on that computer, allowing it to communicate with your Bitwarden client apps and browser extensions. If none of this sounds familiar, then you probably selected the wrong tag for your forum post.
An easy test would be to open the browser extension window, then click on the profile avatar (a colored circle with your initials) in the upper right corner of the browser extension window, and read what is says just below where your email address is shown. Please let us know what it says there.
Does it say bitwarden.com
? If so, please go to vault.bitwarden.com to access your Web Vault. From there, use the left-hand navigation menu to go to Settings > Security (see Circled Area 1 in the screenshot below), then click the “Keys” tab at the top (see Circled Area 2 in the screenshot), and read out the information that is shown on your computer screen in the “KDF Algorithm” field (see Circled Area 3 in the screenshot), as well as any other fields on the page that include the “KDF” term in their label (e.g., “KDF Iterations” in the screenshot below).
Thanks for all the information,i’ll maybe come back later. Now trying to work out all the changes that have just been made. Thanks again.
