Password shown in plain text in email address field on login page

Hello -
I’ve been happily using Bitwarden for some time now but am brand new to the Bitwarden community. I’m using Bitwarden v2022.12.0 in Brave browser v1.46.144 (based on Chromiumv108.0.5359.128, (Official build) 64-bit) on my laptop with Pop! OS 22.04.

This may be an autofill problem from what I’ve seen elsewhere but doesn’t quite feel like it.
When I log into Bitwarden.com, I enter the first charactor of my email and the browser (or maybe it’s the BW website?) comes back with my email address which is as expected. Recently, I inadvertently entered the first character of my password into the Email field instead and it was my plain-text password that popped up.
Is this the way it’s supposed to work?

Hello @rwesson - welcome to the Bitwarden community forums.

No, that is not expected behaviour for Bitwarden. But if I had to guess, it sounds like your browser may be auto-filling that instead. Have you checked to see if that feature is enabled? If it is, I would recommend turning it off (both for the obvious reason and because it will interfere with the Bitwarden autofill on occassion).

I agree with @dh024. This sounds like your browser has saved the password and is autofilling.
