Password Manager no longer displaying copy option for Password

I also have this issue.

But all apps, Desktop, Extension and Web login

Hover does nothing. Something changed, and now getting a password is near impossible within Bitwarden; this needs to be fixed ASAP.

@DarkMurf Welcome to the forum!

In your browser extension, please go to Settings > About > About Bitwarden > Copy, and paste the results here.

In your desktop app, please go to Help > About Bitwarden, and paste the results here.

Currently Bitwarden is almost unusable.

The Copy button for Password has been removed.

This is in all apps: extension, desktop app and web login.

Examples below.

If I cannot autofill the password details for a site or application, then I cannot log in unless I know the password.

This is a major issue. Someone else reported a similar issue, and BW staff replied to hover over the password to see the copy option; this doesn’t work.

Link to that discussion.- Copy username / copy password missing from web app (vault.bitwarden.com) drop down menu - Ask the Community / Password Manager - Bitwarden Community Forums

Can this be fixed, as it is now disrupting normal business operations

This is the version of the extension

One of my colleagues has an earlier version, 2026.4.0 and this is not an issue for them.

And as extensions are generally automatically updated, this will break for them soon as well.

@DarkMurf That is an organizational item. Additionally to what @grb wrote, please also check your permissions for that collection. If it’s e.g. “View only / hide passwords” it would be perfectly expected that you can’t copy the password.

I had other screenshots, but “New users” can only post one image, this makes very little sense as well.

Here is the version

And wait timers for posting are also annoying; this will drive customers away if not removed.

Just check the mobile app; it has the same issue with this app as well.

Seems inconsistent, as a colleague of mine has the latest extension and doesn’t have this issue.

Browsers is Edge.

@DarkMurf Please check your collections permissions as written before. If you don’t have access to the Admin Console yourself, contact your admin.

That was an unrelated issue.

The most likely explanation for your issue is that the permissions of the “Supplier Logins” collection changed so that you no longer have access to viewing passwords. Contact your admin.

Yes, I think @grb is correct here. That was also the reason I “merged” your posts into one thread @DarkMurf.

BTW, if you want to further test our “hypothesis” @DarkMurf: if you look into a personal vault item of yours – is the “copy password” button missing there as well? (in the rare case you don’t have any personal vault items: create a test item in your personal vault with any meaningless password, so that you can check the “copy password” button afterwards)

It makes sense from the point of view of protecting the forum from abuse by spammers. To remove the “new user” restrictions, just read another 25 comments in at least 5 different topics.

Actually, the setting was set to View Items and not View Items / Hidden Passwords, so shouldn’t I still be able to see the password and not edit them? when View Items is set?

I have updated my access, but this was never changed, and I feel the recent update has changed how View Items works based on the information provided.

I think this is the issue.

You can clearly see I have ‘View Items’ selected, not ‘View Items / hidden passwords’, and yet the password is hidden from me. I don’t think this is intended.

BW website even states this here - Collection Permissions | Bitwarden

Again if im wrong please correct me.

Hmmm. I just tested this – and can say that in my test collection, with “View items” permission I still do see the “copy password” button. (member role “user”)

So, a few speculations:

  • if you hadn’t shown your browser extension screenshot, I would have asked if you’re self-hosting – and which server version version it would have been – but it seems, you’re on the BW cloud and therefore also with an up-to-date server
  • you could try to deinstall/reinstall the BW client/apps… but since you already mentioned it would happen in multiple apps, it seems unlikely that all your apps have an “error” now
  • you seem to be using an Enterprise organization, as you also have “groups”… my best guess would be that there could be an overlap in permissions for that user / collection / group(s) the user is in

I don’t think any Enterprise policy could interfere here?!

If you don’t succeed, I would recommend to contact BW support. Maybe they have another idea – or can help to find out if this might be some kind of bug.

PS: @DarkMurf To see if it is (or is not) a local issue with your configuration, you could create a new “simple” test collections, with more or less only the “View items” permission for your user. If that then shows the copy button, I would think it is less likely that it’s a bug, but some kind of configurational issue (that only now surfaced, for whatever reason).
