Note password locked only works on web

I have a note that is password locked, when I try to access it in chrome extension it tells me that the password is wrong, but when I try the exactly password in bitwarden web it works perfectly. What could cause this?

@renanlimac Welcome to the forum!

Just to be sure: you’re talking about a Note in your Bitwarden vault, that is protected by master password re-prompt, so this dialog is where you type in the password in both cases:

… right?

Exactly! It still saying the password is wrong even though I can login and access the note using the same password in bitwarden web

I’m curious (and testing this could give us some clues): if you create a vault export (by going to Settings > Vault options > Export) in the misbehaving browser extension, does it accept the master password you have been using?

Wow, that’s really weird, its says it’s the wrong password.

How could that be? It’s my main PC, I use Edge with Bitwarden everyday and the passwords are syncing normally with my android phone and the others browsers.

Either there is some kind of snafu that has caused corruption of the master password hash that your browser extension uses when verifying sensitive actions (master password reprompts or vaults exports), or your browser extension is in fact logged in to a different account, which has a different master password than your “true” account.

I would suggest that you start by going to the Account Actions page in your browser extension, and examine the email address and server domain displayed there (see instructions here). Carefully compare these pieces of information against the base domain of the website that you use to access the Web Vault (i.e., bitwarden.com vs. bitwarden.eu), and the email address displayed under Settings > My Account in the Web Vault app.

If the email address and server domain match exactly, and if you have no other reason to believe that the vault data available in your browser extension is in any way different from the vault data that you access in the Web Vault, then I would suggest that you log out completely from the browser extension (by accessing Account Actions via the profile avatar icon, and selecting   :right_arrow: Log Out. Make sure that the browser extension icon (next to your browser’s address bar) turns gray.

If you specify the same server domain and email address that you use to access the Web Vault, then you should be able to log back in to the browser extension. Hopefully this clears out any corrupt hash values, and you will now be able to use your master password to access items protected by master password reprompt, and to create exports.

I would suggest that your first step be to login to the web vault and under “tools”, select “export vault” and then “zip format”. If you have multiple vaults (you will know if you do), repeat this for each vault and store them on a flash drive that you keep somewhere safe. Once safely stashed away, delete the exports from your downloads folder. Although exports work from all the vaults, I suggest using the web vault because it is the one that you report working properly.

Given that things are a bit squirrely now, there is a risk of things getting worse. And if that happens, you will greatly appreciate having a backup.
