New version of Bitwarden (on macOS) always opens main window on startup/login. This was never the case with previous versions, so something has changed.

Did you check “Start to tray” in the desktop app settings?

I’m on macOS and using Bitwarden version 2026.5.0, and there is no “Start to tray” in the settings.

Ah… there are others who report that option would be missing on MacOS – see here:

(PS: Yes, this is a Linux/Flatpak issue, but as written before: some comments there mention that the “Start to tray” option would be missing on MacOS too, so for now, I think this gets tracked there also.)

Well, it’s nice to know that I’m not alone. But, this has been happening on both of my Apple systems. I have an M1 2020 MacBook Pro, and an Intel 2018 Mac Mini.

So, to anyone whose reading this, please put the “Start to tray” option back.
