Can’t get the password generator feature to create a new Bitwarden file. When creating a new account at a new website the password generator pops up offering a password to enter but doesn’t save it to Bitwarden. This causes the creation of a new login without asking to save it as a new login thus defeating the purpose of generating a new password.
@FixMacs Could you please confirm if you’re talking about the iOS mobile app? (and not the browser extension, used on a mobile browser)
I gave up on the browser extension for both the OS and iOS. Never use it. Thanks for asking. I have had to reset the password for new website logins repeatedly. Bitwarden doesn’t ask if I want to save it. When creating a new entry in Bitwarden, I go into Bitwarden, create a new entry, create new credentials, then manually copy and paste the credentials into the new website account setup form. No extension.
Okay, but when you create a new entry like that and given you don’t forget to save it… I’m not sure what your issue then is. ![]()
How do I save it? There is no way to save it. The Bitwarden automatically places a password in a password field that shows as dots. In the past, Bitwarden would ask if I wanted to create a new Bitwarden entry using the pasted password.
Sorry, now I’m confused. And unfortunately I don’t have an iPhone, but can only compare it with the Android app.

But Android and iOS app alike, there for sure should be a “save” button when you create a new vault item – on the current Android app, it is here:

I think I never saw the generator popping up in a password field on Android – I don’t know, if the iOS app (maybe due to it’s app extension?!) behaves differently here. Do you see something like this?
(that screenshot is from my desktop browser, and the browser extension “created” that generator’s suggestion – on Android, if there is no credential for a site/app, the BW app only creates a “suggestion”, that leads into the app and initiates the process to create a new item, which I save and can use then)
PS: Are you self-hosting your Bitwarden server?
Self-hosting. When I go to a website to create a new login, I get a small pop up asking for my permission to insert a new password. Bitwarden automatically inserts a new password without asking if I want to save it. I have been highlighting the new password, copying it, then opening BW, then clicking to create a new entry window, then pasting the new password into the new BW entry, then saving the password, then I go back to the website. Extremely inefficient.
Then please post a screenshot of your Admin Dashboard.
It would be useful to see a screenshot of that, too. (if it wouldn’t be visible in the screenshot, let us know which browser you used)
