Hello everyone,
I have some issues with a website of my. There are 3 Fields to fill out to login.
Client (top), User(mid) and Password(bottom). If i click on my inline autofill it will skip the username and only paste the Password. For this case i ignore the “client” field.
the username and the password are custom fields. If i go to my add-on tab in my browser and select the password in the Bitwarden Browser plugin it works. The username is put in correctly.
Can someone explain this behaviour? What does Bitwarden need to determine what is a common username and password field? is there a W3 standard?
The problem is that there are no standards, so it is like the “Wild West” out there, with website developers often designing forms that are difficult for password managers to parse.
This type of problem can in most cases be solved by defining one or more custom fields. If you need further assistance with this, then please share the URL of the website in question.
Also, the new inline autofill menu feature does have a propensity to break certain websites, because it requires very invasive modification of the site’s HTML code by Bitwarden (which is difficult to do without breaking functionality, again as a result of the lack of standardization).
To bring this to the attention of Bitwarden developers, you may submit an Auto-fill Failure Report here:
