More 2FA options for the Bitwarden account (e.g. push-app-2FA)

It would be great to have a phone number option for the coming two step authentication. I’m not fond of using email to do so.

You mean the new device verification?

Or do you mean the 2FA-options for Bitwarden? (currently: email, “passkey”/FIDO2, TOTP/authenticator app, DUO, Yubico OTP)

And by phone number, you mean “SIM” in the end? (i.e. not “push app”)

Thanks.
Not really a tech person, but yes, the 2FA for Bitwarden.
And yes, using the sim. Either sms to number, or some sort of push to device (similar to what some banking apps use).

Apologies for any lack of clarity.

Okay, so you mean “more 2FA options for Bitwarden - either SMS or push app”…

Hm, some first thoughts to that:

  • it may be best to have a separate feature request for each (SMS-2FA and push-app-2FA)
  • though, I think an implementation of SMS-2FA is highly unlikely… SMS are really unsecure and costly… SMS is not encrypted, you have the problem of SIM-swapping, etc.
  • I don’t know if it would be technical possible, but a push-app-2FA may be an interesting idea for the Bitwarden authenticator app (as you need a connected app for “push-2FA”, that might be a new possibility now with the Bitwarden authenticator app… and when they are able to sync, you would already have the “connection” between the app and the BW account…)

PS: I changed the title for now… it was “2 step authentication” before…

Thanks for the clarification and better title.
I appreciate your thoughts and input as my knowledge of this stuff would fill less than a thimble.

Cheers.

As I indicated in the other thread. This is possible if you sign up for DUO.

Right. I didn’t think of that possibility.
