When creating a passkey for the first time at webauthn.io I created it on the desktop in a browser extension, and then I found it worked also on my android phone. But experimenting further I selected from the drop down menu “always for this site” and got a QR which I scanned with my phone. Since then all passkeys seem to be stored on my phone and so I need to have the phone. How do I go back to not using a specific device? I am not sure what I would do if I lost my phone or didn’t have access to it.

In the Bitwarden browser extension?
When you selected “always for this site”, the domain of the site should have been added to the “Excluded domains” (BW browser extension → Settings → Notifications → Excluded domains). When you delete the said domain from that list, you should see the pop up again.
It sounds a bit odd, that after that you also for other sites don’t see the passkey popup from Bitwarden… The Bitwarden browser extension is still your “default password manager” (Settings → Autofill … and browser password manager is disabled also?) - and you didn’t deactivate the general passkey storage and usage of the extension (Settings → Notifications → Ask to save and use passkeys)?
What I did in the end, before I saw your reply, was delete and re-install the bitwarden extension. But I recreated the problem with a different operating system user and your solution worked. So what does “excluded domains” exclude domains from? It looks like exclusion from Fido Credentials.
(I could not recreate the other sites bit, so maybe I hallucinated that.)

Two things - for the domains put on that list, it disables:
-
“save password” prompts
-
passkey-prompts.
I see, I think the “use passkey” prompt and QR is coming from Chromium. I don’t get the prompt on Firefox, it tells me to use a hardware key.

Good point: every Bitwarden extension has it’s own “excluded domains” list (it doesn’t get “synced”). So you should check that “excluded domains” list on the Firefox extension as well…
