Hello. I am new to using this software, so forgive me if I’m missing something obvious.
I have all setting set up correctly, for Auto-Fill and all. But I am finding that, the autofill and login process is still semi manual. I want to automate the last step.
For example when I access Apple iCloud Mail web interface, the sign-in box appears.
Despite having auto-fill turned on in settings, I see a blank “Email or Phone Number” field which is empty. It’s not until I hover over the field that the Bitwarden tooltip appears with my saved credentials. Then I press enter and “Continue with Password”.
I just want it to auto-fill automatically and log me in. I know it’s only a few extra clicks but in aggregate over the course of my lifetime it’s going to be 100,000’s of times. Is there a way to do this built-in, or is it too much to ask for? If it’s not supported by Bitwarden is there a 3rd party Chrome Extension that can pull this off? Thank you.
The problem is that Bitwarden’s automatic auto-fill function is triggered when a new webpage is loaded into the browser — hence the name “Autofill on page load”. In the case of the icloud.com site, the webpage does not contain a login form when the page is loaded (so there is nothing for Bitwarden to auto-fill); and when you click the Sign in link, no new webpage is loaded into the browser — they just use scripts to completely change the appearance of the page that is already loaded. Because no new webpage is loaded, Bitwarden’s “Autofill on page load” is not triggered.
Personally, I use (and recommend to use) Bitwarden’s keyboard shortcuts, which are immune to these types of issues. As soon as you see a login form in your browser, simply click Ctrl+Shift+L (in Windows) or ⌘+⇧+L (in macOS).
