Frequent notices to 'Update existing login' / 'Save (new) login' with latest browser extensions

I’m pretty sure Bitwarden knows there is a bug given the amount of posts here and on GitHub.

6 posts were split to a new topic: Bitwarden should have beta releases

where is this setting? do i go into bitwarden.com? or the firefox extension? i’ve looked and don’t see it anywhere.

@ydaltak Welcome to the forum!

Open the browser extension window and first click “Settings” in the bottom right corner, then “Notifications” (those options are to be found there):

2025.11.1 extension recently became available for Firefox, Same problems persist. Rolling back to 2025.10

Hello everyone, I noticed a weird problem for the Brave’s extension in Linux and Windows
A LOT of sites when filling the credentials I get this message “Update existing login” … why ???
Nothing changed, not the address, user, pass .. nothing.
It’s so annoying.
I reported this bug but I got no answer.

Can someone please explain to me why is this happening ?

@Solomn I moved your post into the thread for that current issue… I think this thread should explain it… also have a look at the mod notice attached to the first thread.

I am experiencing this issue too!

This happens all the time. You want sites, here’s one: amegybank.com

This should be treated as a hot topic, it’s been happening for some time, I’m finally aggravated enough to report it.

A user on the Github thread reports that Bitwarden Customer Support informed them that a fix will be available in the next release.

I keep getting a prompt to “update” my account instead of “add a new one” when I log into different accounts using the same address. Additionally, even though this account name isn’t in my password vault, it still prompts me to update rather than add it. This is really disrupting my usage, especially with services like Google.

@surfzhang25 Welcome to the forum!

I moved your post into the thread about the current issue/bug you described.

For me it’s happening on most ANY website/login form.

But here are 2 examples:

BTW, W11 Pro, everything up to date, latest Google Chrome, happens on all my machines (a dozen).

This is exactly what is happening to me on most of my website login attempts. Very annoying. I will just turn off this notification until something is fixed. :frowning:

I just had it happen on this website. So the url would be community.bitwarden.com. I just click on login, used Chrome bitwarden extension to fill in the fields. The Update existing login box popped up (and is still visible). I haven’t changed this password in a long time. It is a little annoying.

I have the same bug. Fix it asap.

There is an update from one of the BW developers in the corresponding GitHub issue:

And so far, there are now three Pull Requests regarding this issue:

Within the past month I’ve seen multiple sites for which I have logins saved in my vault prompting to update my saved information after successfully signing in. At first I thought this was Bitwarden telling me my current login was outdated or compromised, so I updated my password for the site (in this case, my credit union). I still get the update prompts even after generating a new random password, and I’ve seen it on a few other sites as well. I did try confirming I had any possible variations of the URL included in my vault entry. Clicking Update for the site claims to work but the same thing happens on the next visit. What else could I be missing? I can dismiss the prompt, but it is a minor annoyance I’d rather address.

Thanks,

Dan
