Firefox extension has become unbearably slow

I’ve been using Bitwarden for a while now as a Firefox extension. I have a paid account. But since about a week or so ago it has become super slow. Doing anything takes about 10 seconds of waiting. I am not even talking about clicking the extension icon and trying to type anything in the search. Forget about it. Just selecting an item in the vault and copying the user name or password takes that long.

Any idea why?

PS. I don’t upload a ton of stuff into it. Just usual logins.

@gd2025dg Welcome to the forum!

As this is a very recent thread on the same topic, I moved your post into it for now. – Does the solution help in your case as well?

@Nail1684 no, logging out and reinstalling the extension didn’t help. I also tried to find how to delete its local storage but couldn’t. Any help? I’m on Windows. I’m not sure how to find this:

%AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\your_profile\storage\default\moz-extension+++[UUID]^userContextId=[integer]

Hello @gd2025dg, I am not Nail1684, but you can find the UUID of the Bitwarden Firefox extension by copying and pasting this into the address bar: about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox

Yes… or via about:addons:

I think that path is missing something – on my system, it’s AppData\Roaming. So, correct path:

%AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\your_profile\storage\default\moz-extension+++[UUID]^userContextId=[integer]

And “AppData” is in your User folder. (hidden folder – you might have to activate “show hidden folder/files”)

Ok, thanks. I found it. It’s super confusing. Whoever else is stuck dealing with this uuid nonsense, it happened to be two:

C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\p1rr6w1l.default-release\storage\default\moz-extension+++f1d633eb-dfe8-4738-aeb1-45b370fd1cc7^userContextId=4294967295

and

C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\p1rr6w1l.default-release\storage\default\moz-extension+++f1d633eb-dfe8-4738-aeb1-45b370fd1cc7

note that the Profiles folder had two subfolders. So I had to search through both.

Uninstalling the extension removes those two moz-extension locations from the file system, but it still doesn’t resolve this hang. It could’ve slightly improved it, but the extension still hangs for 3-4 seconds when I open it and then repeats it when I try to use it. Which makes it quite unusable.

@gd2025dg What is your Firefox version?

There’s also another way to see if it’s related to your profiles/configurations, which is also a good method for filing a bug report. Create a fresh profile and install the extension. See if you have the same behavior. If you do, you can likely file a bug report that Bitwarden would be able to duplicate and fix.

@Nail1684 142.0.1 (64-bit)

Since I can’t post another question and this one is marked as “resolved” (my issue is not) if anyone figures out why the Bitwarden extension has become so laggy please post it here.

@gd2025dg I just moved your posts out of the other thread again.

PS: Did you try what @Neuron5569 suggested (testing it on a fresh Firefox profile)?

@Nail1684 I don’t have a fresh FF profile.

@gd2025dg I think that was expected - and that’s why @Neuron5569 suggested to create one. :wink:

It’s also pretty easy to do. Type about:profiles in the address bar; it’s the first button down on the left.
