Firefox add-on: sort autofill suggestions based on frequency of usage

Hi all,

Is this possible or not yet implemented?

My logins are always suggested in the same order and not based on frequency of use.

Hence, some of my most frequently used items are sometimes located at the end of the list, which is inconvenient.

Hello,

I think you are talking about the in-line credential matching lists.

AFAIK, there isn’t a way to change the order of lists presented, in-line or not. Workarounds might include:

  1. If possible, use URL matching to limit the number of matches, e.g. if you can embed the username into the URL.
  2. Make an item favorite, so it shows up first in the list shown when clicking on the extension icon
  3. Use Ctrl-Shift-L to autofill, this will pick up the last used item first.

Otherwise, this might be a feature request, that may take forever to do, or never.

… I’m not so sure about that… and just have found another inconsistency…

Also @orschiro : I didn’t test all autofill methods now, but some do seem to change the order.

  • using the keyboard shortcuts doesn’t change the order, I think (as you don’t “choose” one credential explicitly - you just “stop” when you have the right one)

  • choosing one item in the inline autofill menu, does change the order for me - actually, as well as in the inline autofill menu as in the autofill suggestions in the extension window (!) (–> same order in both, always)

  • choosing one item in the autofill suggestions (= using the “Fill”-button), changes also the order for me - however, now only in the autofill suggestions, and not in the inline autofill menu (!) (–> order in the autofill suggestions now different than in the inline autofill menu)

Caveat: I didn’t test now, how persistent this order-change is… but I think, I experience the order-change for a longer time now (PS: as I sometimes use the inline autofill menu), always guessed there might something be happening, but never “analyzed” it…

You’re right. The order does change on some websites but definitely not all based on frequency of use.

I can’t identify any pattern though…

Each time I use a credential it is moved to the top of the list. My take is that the list is presented in recency of use, not frequency of use. And for those not recently used (whatever that is), they appear alphabetical.
