Export from Android

I just discovered Bitwarden on my Windows 7 laptop that holds 200+ passwords is not available because W7 is no longer supported. I have the same passwords on my Android phone. My desktop computer is running Windows 10. What is the procedure to export from Android to the desktop version of bitwarden?
Thanks

If you log into the web vault on your Win10 machine you can see everything, correct? If so that confirms (along with the fact that you see everything on your Android phone) that everything is as it should be in the vault.

Provided that is the case, then it’s simply a matter of you not being able to access the vault from your Win7 machine. Upgrade it to something that’s supported both by Microsoft and Bitwarden and you should be fine.

As an aside, you may as well proceed to upgrade your WIndows 10 machine to Windows 11 soon as it too is out of support (Microsoft) as of October of this year.

Last, I recommend you make regular backups (exports) of your Bitwarden vault and store them in multiple places along with your recovery codes. All on encrypted hardware or cloud storage, naturally.

@TVC15 Welcome to the forum!

I’m not sure if I understand you correctly, but if it is just, that you want to use “the passwords” from your Bitwarden account/vault on your Win 10 desktop… then you would just have to install any of the Bitwarden apps (preferably the browser extension) and log into your account.

You can access your vault from any Bitwarden app on any device - when you login there to your Bitwarden account/vault. Every Bitwarden app syncs automatically with your vault, when logged in to your account.

PS: Other than that, I agree with what @bwuser10000 wrote - and making a backup regularly is recommended anyway.

… “cloud” should probably only be done - if at all - additionally to (and not instead of) “offline” storage… and when, make sure you have the login credentials to the cloud storage also on your emergency sheet.

What I’m trying to do is get the passwords loaded onto the W10 machine. I’ll have to load Bitwarden onto W10 computer tomorrow. But, maybe I don’t understand the technology. Is the data on a cloud server and not stored on my W7 computer or Android device?
Thanks

Your devices (computers & phones) sync with your vault which is hosted on Bitwarden’s servers. When your vault (on a device) is locked, an encrypted copy of the vault is stored on the device. When you unlock it, it’s literally unlocked so that the web vault, desktop app, or browser extension can display the contents (PC) and the app on your phone can do the same thing. Changes made on the device are sync’d back up to Bitwarden’s servers.

The exception to this is if you were self-hosting, in which case replace BItwarden’s servers with your own server.

I’m not sure of your exact setup.

I understood, that Bitwarden doesn’t work on your Windows 7 machine. But how do you access your 200+ passwords on your Windows 7 machine right now? (if it was Bitwarden, then a) it still must work somehow and b) Bitwarden is an online password manager, and though local cache exists, it must usually be connected to the Bitwarden server)

And for your Android device the same thing, essentially… When you have “the same passwords on your Android phone” - and that is: you use Bitwarden on your Android phone (mobile app) - then that mobile app should connect to your Bitwarden account.

Or put in other words: If you have an existing Bitwarden account with all your passwords like on your Windows 7 and Android devices, then you just have to install a Bitwarden app on your Windows 10 an login to your Bitwarden account there - it get’s synchronized automatically.

(Though again, a backup/export is never a bad idea!)
