I’m also missing on MacOS:
CMD+U (copy username)
CMD+P (copy password)
CMD+F (focus search field)
Would like an option that Bitarden starts with focus in the search field.
All basic functionality IMO.

Please make the whole App usable with only the keyboard!
As some already mentioned: the “Ctrl-F” is currently broken, which is quite a problem.
after hitting Enter in the search field, you should be able to select the first entry easily, and also activate this entry, so that you then can copy the information you need into the clipboard - as the prior “jony” also mentioned.
So in a nutshell:
reenable the commands that already worked (Cmd+F, Cmd+U, Cmd+P, Cmd+T)
And make the entries selectable via keyboard as well!

With the newer Desktop version, it seems that the default view has changed. How do I remove/hide the owner column? It is wasting space since for me it is always “me”.
Hello @bigsky48
I moved your post into a possibly relevant thread.
AFAIK there’s no way to hide it at the moment. See the comments above.
I also just registered here to voice my frustration with the new UI/UX.
Before I start, I want to say that I really like Bitwarden and have been using it for years. It did what it’s supposed to do really well…
BUT, with the new UI, I feel like it’s getting more difficult to do what I want it to do, that is: getting my passwords and saved info.
Like many people mentioned, there is so much wasted space everywhere. Spacing between entries is like 3x bigger than it needs to be. The “Owner” tab is absolutely useless to me, as I only use it to store MY Passwords.
Instead of clicking the box of the entry, you now have to click the name exactly to see your details, making usability way harder.
The Settings menu feels worse than the mobile version, requiring me to scroll on a 16:9 screen.
The detail page, where I see my Username, Password, 2FA, Notes, Options, etc., is like a third of its original size. In my opinion, this page is the most important one and should be presented as such.
In general, it feels like the transition from Windows 7 to Windows 8, placing mobile UI on desktop. Removing efficiency for “looks”.
For now, I have actually downgraded back to version 2026.3.1 and will actively start looking for alternatives if this doesn’t improve.
This happens when the IT/programming department designs the UI - a perfect example. The UI designer would never have made such mistakes.
Does anybody know if any of the reported issues have been addressed in 2026.5.0. other users or Bitwarden employees monitoring the thread might provide insight. I just looked at the release notes for 2026.5.0 Bitwarden Password Manager here:
Am I looking in the wrong place? - there is zero mention of any fixes for any of the items in the 2026.4.0 version described in this thread - perhaps that is not what release notes are for (?)
@Toasted : a few days ago @dwbit wrote:
As we are here in a “community” I am not sure if the developers follow everything what happens here.
Maybe better so send a “bug” report via their website Help Center | Bitwarden and then “Contact support”.
I wonder why this happened - to release such a UI without testing or getting feedback from the “common” users.
@clausimausi FYI, it wasn’t me who wrote it, it was @dwbit…
@Toasted In my experience, issues are rarely patched in the very next release (especially when the issue involves more than a single bug).
Ups, sorry @grb. I will fix it.
Two weeks ago we could read a blog article by Mike Sullivan, CEO:
A quote from the blog article:
We commit to putting meaningful resources behind the research, product development, and engineering talent required to stay ahead. Expect to see more from Bitwarden in the coming months across credential management, enterprise capabilities, and user experience.
If this is the new path Bitwarden goes … then without me; and for sure without many other users.
A new UI from one day to another, no betas, no communication with the users, no announcement in the Release notes - and still no feedback from the developers.
As I’ve noted elsewhere in the forum, the origination of these recent UI/UX changes likely pre-dates the change in management.
The “UI refresh” was first announced for the browser extension and web vault back then (Release 2024.12.0):
I think since then it was more or less clear – and I think I can remember having read it somewhere as well – that the other apps/clients will/would get adapted as well.
I agree with most of the criticism of the current usability issues, quirks and “questionable” UX decisions – and of course the additional bugs are more than unfortunate. But that there would be a design change at all was not a surprise. I think it was to be expected that the desktop app would get a UI that looks similar to the web vault…
Desktop app:
Web vault:
@Nail1684 : I would have expected to read for the Desktop app 2026.4 (MacOS App Store) something like this:
Desktop app Ul refresh: The Bitwarden Password Manager desktop app Ul has been partly redesigned to adapt the web app’s UI.
But: It was not mentioned. To me, this shows the low importance that the Bitwarden team places on UI design (and this has been clear for a long time, for me as a user, and someone who has ‘some’ experience in designing UI/UX). It is not important enough to mention that there has been a fundamental update to the UI — not only visually, but also in terms of using the app with the keyboard as several users reported here.
You are right, there are more similarities to the web with the desktop app version 2026.5. I never use the web app myself; I work with the desktop app 90% of the time and 9% with the iOS app. You could have asked me, ‘What does the web app actually look like?’ and I wouldn’t have been able to give you a specific answer. I do not really understand why you mention the web app as this thread is about the newly released desktop app. But as the web app looks similar, very similar criticisms can be levelled at it and improvements can be made there too. It would mean, in case the teams works on a refresh of this app redesign, also the web app would get a refresh of the redesign. Well, we will wait, trink tea and see what happens …
Do you really think I can remember what was announced in the release notes sometime in 2024? Sorry, but I don’t remember it. But it’s clear that it’s not only the backend that gets updated with each update, but also the frontend from time to time, too. To me, the first visual changes arrived in the desktop app a few months ago when the left panel was updated, so I also expected that something will also happen with the item(s) part(s)/vault content during the next months. And I must say that the UI is still “poor” and leaves room for improvement (not only the items part but also the left panel or the Settings “window”…).
And again: The Bitwarden team needs professional support for the UI/UX design.
Btw: There are not the same update info when comparing the info on the Bitwarden website with the info I see for the MacOS App Store version.
@artush The missing keyboard shortcuts are a known bug of the latest versions of the desktop app.
A fix seems to be in the works:
Issues I have are the mostly as others and maybe a few more
1: to get a password requires two clicks even when an item is visible. Once for the drop down menu and then once for the password. The options for having the icons without the dropdown seem to have gone.
2: when you search for an item and it returns a few of them, it does not show which folder the item was found in. You then have to go and click each item to open the side panel the see which folder the item is in to see if that is the password you want to get.
Thanks for the continued feedback everyone! Please see this post from the team: Desktop App Redesign Update
“Visual improvements”?
Hardly… There’s now a load of useless whitespace on the screen, and an even more useless “Owner” column. And what’s worse, I have to click on the vault entry name to open up the details instead of the anywhere on the card - thus adding insult to injury: what is all that whitespace good for anyway?
I looked for a “compact” and a “customise columns” options in the settings but nothing.
This is a retrograde step. At least allow us to customise the UI when you “improve” it. Please!
