Critical UX Issue: Disruptive Full-Screen Authentication for Auto-Fill & Saving on Android

Dear Bitwarden Team,

I have several complaints regarding the overall Android user experience, but the most frequent and frustrating issue that actively makes me angry and disrupts my daily routine is the current workflow for both Auto-Fill and saving new credentials.

The Problem: When I attempt to either retrieve a login using auto-fill OR when I try to save a new login/password, the system forces me to leave the current context and open Bitwarden in a separate, full-screen activity just to authenticate or confirm the action.

This process causes severe friction and context switching. Because both auto-fill and login-saving happen so frequently, this is the number one reason I find the mobile experience unpleasant. I truly love what 1Password does in this regard, as their method for both retrieval and saving is seamless and non-interruptive.

I strongly urge you to prioritize revising both of these workflows immediately to use an in-context, non-full-screen overlay for all authentication and saving actions.

Thank you for your attention.

Hello @user335 and welcome to the forum.

Critical UX Issue

Can you explain why you would classify this as “critical”? In my understand anything critical should be security-related, like e.g. credentials entered on the wrong web page.

The Problem: When I attempt to either retrieve a login using auto-fill OR when I try to save a new login/password, the system forces me to leave the current context and open Bitwarden in a separate, full-screen activity just to authenticate or confirm the action.

For retrieving a login, this should only happen when your Bitwarden app is locked. Once unlocked, your keyboard should be able to auto-fill with just one click.

I truly love what 1Password does in this regard, as their method for both retrieval and saving is seamless and non-interruptive.

I am curious how 1Password manages to create new credentials, which can be a rather complex procedure, without being opened full-screen. Can you share screenshots to demonstrate what you mean?
