The Chrome extension suddenly causes the browser becoming extremely slow for me. I uninstalled the extension and the problem immediately was gone.
Seems like others are having the same issue: Reddit post
From the comments there, it seems like some have got it fixed by reinstalling the extension, but that it re-appears after a while. I prefer to wait for a permanent fix, or any other any updates on the matter. Until then I’ll use the Desktop App instead.

### Steps To Reproduce
After updating to the latest version of Chrome with the … Bitwarden extension enabled, browsing became impossible due to a significant slowdown in all tabs. This occurs when opening, closing, or switching tabs, as well as when scrolling within a tab.
Simply clicking the Bitwarden extension icon also causes the browser to freeze for a while.
### Expected Result
Smooth operation of tabs.
### Actual Result
It is impossible to work in the browser when the extension is enabled.
If you disable the Bitwarden extension, everything starts working normally again.

### Issue Tracking Info
- [x] I understand that work is tracked outside of Github. A PR will be linked to this issue should one be opened to address it, but Bitwarden doesn't use fields like "assigned", "milestone", or "project" to track progress.
And though it also contains “Chrome” in the title, it seems other browsers are affected too.
EDIT May 15, 2026: A fix was merged and is available with browser extension 2026.4.1. (it’s already available in Edge and Chrome web stores)
