Can you provide specifics? Are you logging into the web vault, browser extension, or something else?
If the web vault, are you logging into the correct URL?
Otherwise what error(s) are you seeing?
I tried again, today it did ask for a code sent to email for new device so now it works.

That sounds like the new device verification. To be on the safe side, store your Bitwarden email credentials also outside of the Bitwarden vault.
While you’re at it… create an emergency sheet for your Bitwarden account/vault and think of casual (or even regular) backups/exports of your vault.
