Browser extension not remembering API

I have Fastmail and I added my API to Bitwarden browser extension to generate masked emails, but everytime I close my browser, extension forgets my API and I have to create a new API. How to fix it?

Windows 11 - Brave 1.87.192

Extension Version: 2026.1.1

SDK: ‘main (8e5efd8)’

Server-Version: 2026.2.1

Change your session timeout action (Browser extension → Settings → Account security → Session timeout → Timeout action) to “Lock” instead of “Log out”.

it is already set like that

Hm. My DuckDuckGo API key persists when I close Brave (also on Windows 11).

But my timeout is only a few minutes and not “Never”, so that might have an influence here.

BTW, you might reconsider “Never” anyway:

(and I have no idea, why this is only mentioned in the Enterprise policies section, while it is a general fact – PS: as I tested it now, I saw that you get that warning in the extension, at least…)

@Naxterra Hm. I shortly tested it with “Never”, and at least the DDG API key persists a closing of the browser then.

At the moment, I have no other idea what it could be.

What I personally would try now: log out on the extension, deinstall it, delete the local data of the extension manually if necessary, restart the device, reinstall the extension, log in again.

I deleted the extension and installed new 2026.2.0 version, also added timeout setting of new start of the browser.

It didn’t delete the API key so far. Let’s see.
