In the meantime, does clicking outside of the extension (so it closes) and then clicking on the extension icon again resolve the issue temporarily?
@dwbit Nope that just causes it to stop loading entirely. Once it goes away (after clicking outside of it). I can no longer get it to load at all until I close and reopen the browser. Also, when it is up and hung with the wheel clicking the buttons along the bottom like Settings, etc does nothing. It seems totally locked up.
hmm. has the fix been released? I’m no longer seeing the issues since yesterday.
The fix will be available for everyone very soon, thanks for your patience! [PM-17793] Fix Vault Loading by justindbaur · Pull Request #13484 · bitwarden/clients · GitHub
Any update on when version of the browser extension with the vault fix will be released?
It seems to be getting worse for me, I have to keep closing edge completely to get the extension to load.
Same issue on Safari. Eventually got it to work logging into commmunity.bitwarden.com first, but now that’s now working either. Why is this an issue that apparently has happened for nearly a year. ??? I’m new to Bitwarden, but ready to bale if I can’t use it on a major browser.
@bobtaurus, if you’re having the same issue as reported in this thread, then just re-clicking on the Bitwarden extension icon installed in your browser should be a workaround to the problem. Otherwise, you might be encountering something else. This particular problem was introduced sometime near the end of 2024 or beginning of 2025. We’re just awaiting the fix (which has been committed) to be rolled out in the next release.
I had the same issue. Logged out and signed back in to the extension fixed it.
How can I log out, I cant access the interface?
@jcdc5891 Welcome to the forum!
Removing the extension (in the extension manager of your browser) and maybe checking whether the local data of the extension was deleted by removing, should do the same trick.
I am unable to get this to work because the extension completely locks up and I cannot logout. I wanted to follow @Nail1684’s suggestion but in Safari it requires removing Bitwarden entirely and I did not want to go through setting up the entire Bitwarden application / settings again (I’m lazy).
As an alternative I tried the Clear Storage option for the extension. That wiped the local storage and logged me out as well. However, it did not solve the problem after logging back in. I still have the spinning wheel hang and the extension locks up completely as it did before when I try to interact with it.
As a workaround until the fix is released I just use auto-fill or the field level login instead of the extension icon. Annoying but works for now.
Today I find both of my machines that run LibreWolf are no longer loading the bitwarden window in the browser. BW has worked fine for me for years, although I only recently changed from FF to LW.The BW icon is blue, but when I click on it I get the spinning wheel of infinity.
OS is Debian 12.10. Browser is LibreWolf 136.0.4-1. I can’t tell you the version of BW as it won’t draw the window.
I can still open BW in Firefox, however.
If you go to about:addons
in LibreWolf, you should still be able to see the Bitwarden extension and it’s version.
PS: I just moved your post into this thread, as it sounds very much like this bug. Please read up for the workarounds. (like clicking somewhere else and opening the extension window again; logging out, logging back in again; deinstalling/reinstalling the extension…)
I’m experiencing this issue on a chromium browser on my Mac.
My solution has been to turn off the Bitwarden extension and turn it back again.
That means I have to log in every time, which I sometimes have to do multiple times in a day.
