Bitwarden has it's own authenticator app?

Just for clarification: I didn’t say anything about emergency access, just the 2FA options and backup for that. But of course, you could also (additionally) set up emergency access.

Thanks! I’ll check that out and set it up for my parents and myself later.

Okay, I’m still confused. I have bit warden, I decide to to enable 2FA for Bitwarden account access and I install Bitwarden Authenticator on my android phone. However I now wish to turn on my PC running Debian desktop (It could occasionally be a Windows PC).

What authenticator app do I use? From my PC I may be running Desktop, Web, Browser extension or CLI.

I’m not sure what you mean here… But if you turned on 2FA for Bitwarden, you will get ask for the 2FA on every Bitwarden app/client you use then. (unless you choose “remember me”)

If your TOTP seed code for Bitwarden is in your dedicated Bitwarden authenticator app on your mobile phone, then you can get the TOTP code, needed for logging in to Bitwarden, from that app on your mobile phone.

Was that your question??

Yes, it was my question. I misunderstood the role of the Authenticator App. I envisaged an application that actively interacted with the login process. Therefore an Authenticator App of some type was needed on every device/PC. That is why my earlier post opened with “Okay, I’m still confused.”

So the Authenticator App is a more sophisticated version of a Soft Token. Things become clearer.

Thank you.
