Bitwarden Authenticator vs Authy

What data breach?

Could be this one

And here’s the earlier (2022) breach, in case you weren’t familiar with that one either:

Thanks people. I have moved the majority of my 2FA accounts over to Ente, which offers some of the things that Authy didn’t. It’s open source and has cross platform sync, including with a desktop app. Do we know when the next release of Bitwarden Authenticator is due?

I am using Roboform and its built in Authenticator. It automatically does the login and the authenticator.
What does everyone think of this? Can bitwarden do this or do you have to do it manually by grabbing the TOTP code yourself?

@fakeologist For security reasons, Bitwarden does not automatically submit login forms after auto-filling. However, Bitwarden’s browser extension does offer about 10 different methods for transferring login credentials from your vault into an online login form. This includes transferring of the TOTP code, if you have a Premium account and keep your TOTP authentication keys in Bitwarden.

Awesome thanks. I really like Roboform but just found bitwarden and see it has quite an active community. I just want to make sure it has ALL the features Roboform has (and even more) before I switch.

This is unfortunately not the case. Bitwarden is a specialized tool that is mainly used for securely storing and auto-filling login credentials, such as usernames, passwords, TOTP keys, passkeys, etc. (it also handles credit card data and “identity” information such as addresses). However, Bitwarden is not designed to be used as a general form-filling utility, like Roboform. Thus, if you need to fill out a form that is not a login form or payment form, Bitwarden is not as effective as Roboform (e.g., you cannot automatically capture all information on a web form such as a job application); Bitwarden does have the ability to define “custom fields” that can be used for auto-filling form fields other than the standard username, password, etc., but you need to define all custom fields manually, one at a time.

If you have been using Roboform strictly as a password manager for website logins, though, you should not find any major missing functionality in Bitwarden.

Based on the Roadmap Sync expected to be delivered in Q2. but Q3 has been finished and we are in at the begining of Q4.
I hope they could manage to deliver it soon because it is very demanding feature.

I tried lots of services after Authy disconnected Desktop, 2FAS soluton with browser plugin is not good, and the only Cross platform option is Ente Auth which is nice service. but I don’t trust it as Bitwarden.
if bitwarden Auth Sync finished soon it would be really great.

It would be great to have an update from the team as to when the next release will be. As the last update for this app was on June 13.

@auth-liker0x01 Hi!

As I see it, that particular roadmap for the authenticator app doesn’t show Q2, Q3 etc. but just “phases”… phase 1, phase 2 etc.
