Autofill not working at all on Brave

Autofill on Brave doesn’t work at all. If I click on a email/username field for example, it just says ‘No items to show’.

On the password field, when you click it, it just shows a generate password button, with a randomly generated password.

So basically nothing is saved. I mean it IS saved in the vault, but for some reason it doesn’t pick up any of the passwords from the vault and autofills them.

What you describe sounds like you may have saved emails/usernames and passwords, but not the correct URLs to the login items. Have a look into this: Using URIs | Bitwarden

In general, that’s a good guide for setting up and using Autofill for the browser extensions: Autofill Logins in Browser Extensions | Bitwarden → FYI, as you can see on this Help Site, there are also various forms of autofill (keyboard shortcut, “Fill”-button in the extension, inline autofill menu, …), not just one possibility…

And if your browser may interfere, because you didn’t disable the browser password manager, have a look into this Help Site also: Disable a Browser's Built-in Password Manager | Bitwarden

By what method did you save the passwords in your vault?

I sounds like you might have attempted to import passwords from somewhere, and that the import process did not work. To troubleshoot this and help you fix your vault data, we will need more information from you.

You’ve mentioned Brave, but can you clarify whether the problem is specific to the Brave browser extension? Have you tried it on any other browsers? If the problem is with your vault data import (as I suspect), then I expect that you will see the same issue on all browsers (not just Brave).

So basically I exported my Brave passwords, then imported them to Bitwarden (csv).
I’m currently using the browser extension. I have tried it with Chrome and it also doesn’t recognise the fields in which it should know which password to autofill.

I don’t understand how the import process didn’t work because all the passwords needed have ended up in the vault? Like I said, it just doesn’t recall them when trying to use autofill.

The import format “Bitwarden (csv)” requires the .CSV file to be formatted in a specific way (with exactly named column headers) in order to work correctly. The import tool was probably able to recognize your Password column, but seems not to have found the data column containing the website addresses (URLs).

Do you still have the .CSV file that you exported from Brave (or could you re-create it)? If so, my suggestion would be for you to log in to the Web Vault, go to the Account Settings, and use the Purge Vault function (found in the red box labeled “Danger Zone”). This will completely erase all vault items stored in your vault (which is necessary to prevent duplicate entries from being created when you re-do the import as instructed below).

:warning: If you have added or modified any vault items since you first imported your vault, these changes will all be lost when you purge the vault. If this is a concern, please pause and let us know before proceeding with the purge and re-import.

After purging the vault, re-do the import procedure, but make sure that you choose the file format “Chrome (csv)” instead of “Bitwarden (csv)”.

This will most likely fix everything, but if it doesn’t, then there are still other approaches we can try.

Thanks this solution actually worked! I had to redo a couple of passwords that I lost since setting up Bitwarden when I re-imported the correct way again but that’s no matter it’s cool.

The issue I have now is it does not offer to save passwords or update them. I went into the settings and clicked on and off the offer to update password boxes, but it still doesn’t work. Any ideas?
