7 years is really too long! Hopefully Iāve seen a PR today, hopefully it is to solve that issue ? 
The PR that you linked has nothing to do with Autotype. However, there are other PRs that indicate Autotype is actively being developed. I have recently made a prognosis SWAG that the Autotype feature may become available for Premium users by the end of the year.

Does this mean it wonāt work for people have self-hosted? Will it eventually be made available for people who are not premium or running their own or something or do I need to look for another password manager?
Self-hosted users can still license Premium features. In the past, there have sometimes been delays before a new feature was rolled out to self-hosted users, but other than that, I see no reason why Autotype wouldnāt (eventually) be available for self-hosted users.
If I see it correctly, this is by far the most voted feature and still after that many years not implemented. Iāve looked into some other ācomparableā products and they also donāt have this feature far.
