Android app requires Android 10+ (phone is Huawei P10 lite, running Android 9)

I’ve been a long time user of Bitwarden, I recently had to reset my Huawei P10 lite and suddenly Bitwarden won’t work anymore?

Why is this?

Hello and welcome to the community :waving_hand:

More details please:

  1. The app won’t start?
  2. Did you check if you have the right server?

  1. What happens when you put in the email and password? What error message did you get exactly?

P.S.: The Huawei P10 Lite appears to be at least 8 years old. Bitwarden requires Android 10 or later. What Android version do you have?

The phone in question is running Android 9.

Bitwarden was working just fine, till about July last year, I take it the newer releases are compiled for Android 10+ since about then?

Apparently, the native Android version has always been documented as requiring Android 10, since January 2025. Have you ever explored the possibility of running a custom ROM?

You may be able to sideload an old version. The problems include:

  1. It’s not supported, as an app version is supported for only about 3 months.
  2. It may incur some risks if Bitwarden has changed the data or encryption schemas. Definitely make backups (not using Android), and possibly avoid editing with Android.

… and I would guess 3.: It probably will not work soon anyway, to use older clients…
