"an error has occured" after migration to a new iphone (ios26.1)

I am using the bitwarden IOS app to connect to a self-hosted db in the office. Problem: I have merged all data from an old to a new iphone, including the Bitwarden app. Now it tells me "an error has occured’ and asks me for the credentials to access the server. They are accepted. The app shows me I am logged in, but on top of it there is a popup, saying “an error has occured”, and I have to enter my credentials again, even though the “you are logged in as myname@example.com” is still visible.

Reinstalling the app did not work. I also disabled bitwarden in the password settings of the iphone. No success. Even a RAP did not help. I can access the web interface of the db using Safari, though.

Every helpful hint is highly appreciated.

@harridu Welcome to the forum!

Please tell us more about this server. Are you the admin? If so, can you let us know the version (preferably, by posting a screenshot of the Admin Dashboard).

If the server is outdated, or if you are running a third-party (non-Bitwarden) server, then compatibility issues are likely the reason for your iPhone connection issue.

This problem went away somehow. The server is a local vaultwarden, running in Docker.

Thank you for your reply

It seems, you are using an unofficial server software, which is not supported by Bitwarden, as it is an independent product. From time to time, there will be compatibility issues between the official Bitwarden client apps (browser extension, mobile app, desktop app…) and an unofficial server product, when Bitwarden implements changes to its own server software and/or client apps. “…Bitwarden cannot guarantee that official clients will work perfectly with non-official servers.”

(Also due to this - and for other reasons - we recommend using the official Bitwarden server software.)

It is generally not possible for members of the Bitwarden community (users or developers) to help with such issues - and with issues of the unofficial server itself. Please seek support in their community spaces.

If you can replicate your issue on an official Bitwarden server, feel free to open a new thread here.
