That’s great news! Right now only the IT team is testing the product, and we can deal with the multiple profiles/browsers, but once we include the executive team into it, they will need something easier to manage. Hope to see the new feature soon so we can move forward with the deployment. Thanks!
So, it means that this feature will be definitely delivered before the end of June 30, 2023? Or the roadmap is just “priorities” and can be again easily delayed to the next year, as previously?
P.S. We’re waiting this feature since 2018!
Hi @Murz, the Roadmap shows the R&D Priorities, which will be a bit earlier than the delivery dates. It will happen this year. At the moment browser profiles, or separate browsers, can support unlimited accounts.
This functionality being missing is preventing us moving to bitwarden, as we have users advocating for its use (including myself) who have personal accounts, but who already have a ton of passwords for work in there, so will need to be able to use both in the browser until we get them all moved across.
It works great in the mobile app, but the desktop browser extension is where its really needed.
Can the Bitwarden team confirm whether this will be a “unified” search experience, or simply switching between accounts as it currently is on mobile? TIA.
While I can’t personally speak to how things may be implemented by the Bitwarden crew, I do know that another member of the community here has similarly requested a unified account experience as you put it, to a allow for search across all accounts logged in with Account Switching.
You may wish to provide an upvote and show your support for such a feature. ![]()
Hey @gsm it will be similar to account switching on mobile/desktop. It is not advised to mix personal + work items within the same login experience as work credentials are a higher threat target and a breach would expose your personal items. Rest assured, the feedback will be passed on to the team.
Thank you for the clarification!
Yeah, I do not mix personal and work vault items, I just want to be able to search among all items without having to select which account to look in, reducing steps and all. I have voted for the unified search feature as @cksapp pointed out above ![]()
Today the 6 month period (1st half of 2023) is ending, could you please share some information how is the progress with implementing the account switching feature for web browsers is going?
@bw-admin @go12 So, the first half of the 2023 is finished month ago already, could you please share the progress of this feature?
Unified account experience would be definitively the best solution !
Same problem here.
An update - account switching for browser is in development. Originally, the team was waiting until Chrome required browser extensions to migrate to Manifest v3 as maintaining the original Manifest v2 extension and the new v3 extension was causing significant development and QA overhead. However, Chrome has shifted timelines again so the team has decided to move forward with beginning the development rather than being delayed by Chrome.
We appreciate everyone’s patience. We will keep the community updated once we have an idea of timing. More to come!
As for unified account search, it makes sense that some users have this preference. Bitwarden business administrators prefer the current approach as it builds better habits with their users to not mix personal and work items, especially as more companies continue to strengthen their security postures. Thanks for the feedback and we’ll consider it if more business administrators bring it up as well.
I run an agency interfacing with multiple contractors, employees, clients, etc. and we have a lot of items to manage, whatever can ease adoption by all these parties is generally a good thing. I think Unified Search would contribute tremendously to a positive user experience for the average user. Bitwarden already has access controls to keep users from moving org-owned items to their personal vaults, so I don’t see how this is much different.
Looking forward to this being released. As a bitwarden admin for a smaller company I’d prefer to see the universal search. Otherwise you see users throwing their common work passwords into their personal account so they don’t have to switch profiles.

@go12, @bw-admin The end of the 2024 year is near, can we hope that this feature will be released this year?
Hi @Murz That is the goal. In the meantime of course different browsers and/or different browser profiles will allow for multiple accounts to be used simultaneously.
This MR has been merged 3 days ago. It seems that it might appear in the next release ![]()
The New Year is coming, but we’re still waiting for the release… Santa, please gift me the account switching feature, finally! ![]()
Murz, I’m with ya on this. I just moved with BW Enterprise and missed this feature on my eval. What other areas can I throw my votes at or does it not make a difference?
@jeffsheff The last MR comment seems to indicate it’s just a matter of time, if nothing goes wrong:
you can expect this in the first part of January
