Is it possible to prevent automatic updates? Just be sure.

In the regular non-portable version, you can also set the environment variable:

ELECTRON_NO_UPDATER=1

This has the advantages of:

• Removing the environment variable allows the auto-update to continue.

• It requires UAC confirmation/elevated status to install over.

Where exactly? User variable or system variable? Do you mean I have to create such value variable and set its value to 1? Please be more specific.

Window11 Settings > (search for) enviro > Edit environment variables for your account

Put in as a User variable.

is there a vote down feature for this? I mean I understand its being done to enhance security but there are other password managers like 1password who have this feature “use biometrics or windows hello on app restart to unlock the app”. So are you guys saying they (1password and others) are vulnerable on windows? If not then why did bitwarden remove this? Please fix any vulnerabilites and bring it back on. I am sorry if I sound rude but It is too inconvenienit this way having to type the password every time on app restart.

please bring the function back… as workaround i revert back to version 2025.7.0

Hey @horst123 the team is exploring ways to bring back biometrics on app restart both reliably and securely, and we’ll share any updates as soon as they are available!

In the meantime, you can also enable Unlock with pin, which logs out after 5 failed attempts.
